Thanks.
As Borders is now (or soon to) selling the Touch I expect you could continue to use the Borders store if you wish. Remember though you can only sync with one store.
I was in a similar situation having purchased my Kobo original and my first few months of ebooks from Borders but then I started shopping at kobobooks.com as it was so much cheaper. Now I also purchase from Amazon on occasion and so having books from several stores meant that I stopped syncing with either store (I think syncing is HUGELY overrated anyway ) and instead I use ADE or Calibre to manage my books.

I have a Kobo Touch and my husband has a Sony T1 Touch, just bought. From what you are saying here, it sounds as if he can buy books from Kobo (as you say, they seem to have the best price) but manage them through calibre. It seemed that if he bought them they would automatically go to the Kobo "shelf" I have in the Kobo application, and we weren't sure if he would be able to get them from there or not.

Is there something special he needs to do to get them just onto the computer and avoiding the Kobo app?

As I understand it you can simply go to the Kobo.com site, log in to your account, find the book in your purchased list and press the "Download Adobe DRM" button which will download a ACSM file which you open via Adobe Digital Editions. That will download the actual book into ADE and then you can install it on your Sony ereader which you should activate with Adobe Digital Editions.

Looks like JB's keeping the Touch at $164 for the next couple of weeks. Now that Officeworks has the Touch in stock at $172, one should be able to get Officeworks to match and beat.

@cyvros: Interesting. Finally at Officeworks. That $151 that JB was selling it fora week or so back is the price you want. Anyway I'm still keep an eye out for cases. Officeworks and JB don't list any though people have expressed seeing some at the later.

Yeah, we were a little bummed we missed out on the $151. It's for my partner (I got mine from Borders US months back), and we'd bought one from a guy on the forum. Unfortunately, Australia Post managed to screw up and lose it at the sorting centre, so she's getting a refund from the chap on the forum, and meanwhile, she's missed the window of opportunity for the $151 price.

Just go to JB and say your mate got it for that price that other week and see what they can do (obviously there must still be 'some' margin at the price)... or at the very least you should be able to get 5% off as this is what Officeworks would do with their match and beat scheme, so that brings it down from the advertised $164 to $155.80. If they can't/wont do, go to Officeworks and get it for that price (this is assuming that you have said stores available to you).

Yeah. We live in inner metro Melbourne, so Officeworks and JBs abound in these parts. We'll try JB first, since we might be looking at a couple of other things to get anyway. Thanks for the tips.

For anyone who hasn't bought the Touch yet and is considering it, Borders AU is selling it for $139 with a $10 ebook voucher from the 1st to the 14th.

If you don't mind not getting the $10 ebook voucher, Officeworks should beat that price by I think it's 5% these days. Just food for thought. I'd do that, but my local Officeworks doesn't have the white/blue in stock, which is the one I want. I'll be buying it from Borders, thanks so much for the heads-up cyvros!

EDIT: It's already $139 at Officeworks, didn't realise. Guess they won't beat the price then Sorry!

Officeworks would have adjusted there price as soon as they became aware of the borders deal they're good like that don't want to give up that 5%

If you show JBHIFI the borders or officeworks site I'll bet they'll match it and I know that some of them are carrying the white and lilac versions that is if you want it in hand right now verses waiting on shipping

Hardly Normal is now selling Kobo Touch (all colours) in Australia. Sticker price is AUD$149.95 but you can screw them down a bit for a cash sale. Kobo needs to up their product education. Harvey Norman only seem to be stocking Kobo and iRiver readers and don't know a thing about either of them or ereaders in general. None of the salemen, the manager or the techie knew a thing. I asked about battery life. Looked all over the box and at the flimsy in the box. No info. So I sent the salesman off to look at the Kobo site and there was nothing they could quickly find on there either. One has to wonder if Kobo really want to sell these things?

My biggest bugbear is that they don't have a shopping cart on their book site. If I want to buy six books, I have to buy each one individually. They have to bear the cost of six individual credit card charges and I, the cost of six individual international exchange rate charges instead of just one. Then of course there is the aggravation of having to fill out six individual order forms and go to PayPal forms six times. It's unbelievable! Can you show me any other online vendor of any product at all, that doesn't have a shopping cart installed?
