(Except, OH LOOK, only the Nook and Nook Color in the above list require me to do so. The other 3 devices were developed by sane people. ![]() The Nook shelves are furthermore utterly worthless because they can't be backed up or shared between Nook devices. So, yes, I "know about" the feature, and I think it's poorly implemented to the point of being useless. I did TRY to shelve all my books on my Nook... I have over 300 books from B&N... you get to type out the shelf name on the slow eInk screen, browse through 14+ pages of books to find the "uncategorized" books, move one to a shelf, and then, oh, look, the nook helpfully moved me to that collection. So now I get to page turn 14+ more times to get to the "uncategorized" again. UGH. I spent over an hour and still wasn't finished. And then my Nook wiped itself after an update and it was all lost. Never again. Quote:
SD card books are even more problematic. It's just broken, period. |

Ok maybe you need to switch to decafe? ![]() You said they don't have collections, I pointed out they use the name MyShelves" instead of collections. I don't know what seems to be the issue. Now granted I would like a drag and drop or check box on my computer and then synch it up that way. But that's not the reality. It doesn off a touch check mark from the device, but I fail to see the go all bizzarko when the difference between tapping a check box or hovering your mouse over a checkbox is all that much of a big deal. Bottom line you said they don't have collections I mearly stated they do. Now if Sony's system is the second coming of Christ for you then hey have at it. To the rest of us, using Calibre to organize my entire library and use the nook color's "mYshelves " current and partial library works just fine for me. But I don't see you going over to the kindle and pointing the lack of even having a collections or Shelves. but yeah that's right you are only focused on bashing the nook, my bad my bad. I don't understand the Nook/Kobo method of not supporting collections/folder browsing in a meaningful manner. Surely a major selling point for most people is being able to carry around their entire library at all times?? Having everything tossed into a single library is unfeasible once you own more than 50 books, imho. Saying that I think Sony is perfect when in my OP on the topic I criticized them both on price AND store is the sign of a fanboi argument -- you're putting words in my mouth. Being upset that I'm not in the Kindle forum when I don't own a Kindle is also the sign of a fanboi argument -- I can post where I please. ![]() And the rest of your post is just trying to put words in my mouth, and or make me sound hysterical in order to discredit me. *yawn* Welcome to my Ignore list. ![]() |

I have all my books on an SD card; there was/is no problem adding or removing them to or from shelves. And, to add books to shelves is not nearly as annoyingly difficult as you make it out to be. It's actually rather simple and fast. |

It's simple (too simple), but it's not fast if you have a library of 100 books or more. You're forced to scroll through ALL of your books in alphabetical order. If I need to add a book that's alphabetized under Z, I have to scroll through screens and screens of books to get to the end. That's ridiculous in 2011. Why can't they have a search box so you can type in the first letter of the book at least? Or have the alphabet on the side of the screen and you just tap on "XYZ" to get to those titles. Come on. Let's call a spade a spade.

I have over 1,000 titles in my Calibre library. It is not feasible to shelve all those manually on a single device. Not when I have 4+ devices (depending on how you count) to manage. |

If Sony can implement an alphabetized scroll bar, so can Nook. |

No need to preface the valid comment. I was thinking of the Sony when I posted my comment. No need to reinvent the wheel with this stuff. Just look around and implement logical practices.

Haha, SCION, good. I'm not TRYING to come off like a Sony fanboi. I have a lot of issues with Sony as a company and their eReader is far from perfect.
![]() I have 4 different reader devices. NONE of them are perfect, or I'd stop buying eReaders altogether. Each of them could learn something from the other. ![]() |

I've been doing this a lot lately because I frequently update cover data, metadata, embedded fonts, and publisher margins in Calibre and then I reupload all my books to a clean SD card and slap THAT into my reader. I would suspect -- I don't KNOW -- that the changed file would look like a different, unshelved book to the Nook reader. I vaguely remember trying this with my N1 or NC (can't remember which) and I remember that being the case. So, there's that. |

EDIT: Oh, wait, yeah. You said same file/name/structure. Yeah, I don't do that -- I have different folders for Read/To-Read. N2 wouldn't work for me. I have three metadata columns in Calibre: 1. Genre (fiction, non-fiction, fanfiction, etc.) 2. Source (Feedbooks, NetGalley, Samshwords, etc.) 3. Reviewed (reviewed, unreviewed, dnf) The SD card is loaded with nested folders according to that data, which the PocketBook 360 reads; the Sony collections grabs the metadata quite nicely.
