Confirmed. Works on K3 files with S/N only. Works on periodicals as well (tested on Asimov's and NYT Book Review). Doesn't work on Topaz (azw1) files. Need to go digging.

Hi, me again! I got the the ADE PDFs to work - I was using the wrong plug-in. So, now it's just the B&N books. I followed the instructions in the ReadMe file exactly so I'm really baffled. Would be grateful for any insight ...

A common problem is B&N getting the name wrong. Check the Unlock Code in "My NOOK Library" at B&N for how to spell your name.

I've tried everything here on seven Amazon books I need to switch to a family member's no-name reader, with all the tools and all the tricks and I've spent hours at it -- no luck! Would any kind soul here be nice enough to 'achieve the impossible' and do it for me on these seven books? I have the s/n of the K3 for which they were bought, and what may or may not be the PID generated from one of those online sites. If you PM me please put a note here, tks a lot!

wallcraft, thanks so much - that did the trick! I use my middle name for everything except my credit cards, so I had the wrong name in the plug-in.

A major upgrade to the tools is now available: tools_v3.0.zip with lots of new features, some bug fixes, support for standalone Kindles, and even a new version of the K4MobiDeDRM plugin that supports Topaz ebooks. I found it when looking at the end of the comments of the last topic/blog at the bottom of the main page on the Alf site and at the end of the DR site.

As for removing DRm from B&N eBooks, if you don't have an older version of the B&N Windows app, the script to get the key won't work. B&N changed things big time.

The script to get the key is actually just calculation and hashing done in python (unlike the Adobe Adept key process which has to extract it either from your registry or find it in your activation.dat). The old windows-only "ignoblekey" script stopped working a long time ago and has not been part of the "tools" release for some time. In fact more advanced versions of all of IHeartCabbages scripts can be found in the "tools"

So are you saying that ignoblekeygen_v2.1.pyw no longer generates a usable key or are you saying the on Windows ignoblekey is broken?

If the first, please post info about it to the Apprentice Alf site so that the developers there can track down the issue and get it fixed if one exists.

I just tried a B&N book (purchased today) with the same tools as always and had no difficulty. The windows-only-script that generates a key from the B&N reader app hasn't worked for quite sometime now (with the newer Nook4PC app). All tools that rely on Name + CC# still work fine -- as of today anyway.

A Plug-In for Topaz? Woo Hoo!

I usually pass on most of those Kindle freebie books that are Topaz because I just hate working with those old scripts. I have to check it out.

I did the same thing with a couple of B&N books I purchased yesterday or the day before using tools 2.4 and via Calibre, emailed them to a K3 without issue.

I'm not sure I've seen this addressed: When "installing" these newer plugins, does one have to UNinstall the old ones from Calibre? Is there a specific process to follow in REPLACEMENT?

I asked this earlier too. No need to uninstall. Just install over the old ones.

Do whatever you're comfortable with. If you add the new plugins right over top of the old ones... your customization settings will be retained. If you remove the old one's first, you may have to set them up again (the ones that need configuration).

If you have really, really, really old versions of a certain plugin, you may be better off removing them (or just disabling them until your satisfied) first.
