Hopefully, if your plane should go down in the snowy mountains it'll not be to far from Shangri-La.

The report says that when they purchased the home in 1980 it sat a mile back from the beach. In thirty years the property slowly eroded away until this last storm took the ground out from under it. During that thirty years, why didn't they move the house? That isn't such a big deal these days. At some point during those thirty years they must have realized that eventually the house was going to fall. Jack it up. Put it on a flat bed. Move it to another location. Set it down. End of problem. Stitchawl |

it could very well have been that the house wasn't worth saving. I've noticed a lot of the ocean front homes built prior to 1960 are little more than cardboard shacks.
anyway... I lost power for about 4 hours today. wasn't that big of a deal for me, just put off some work in the kitchen I was going to do. there is always tomorrow... |

My generator is almost like this one from Harbor Freight Tools, but only 4400 Watts + whatever the "max" rating is. A nice feature on mine is a display showing the total hours of operation to remind the owner of needed maintenance.
![]() It's noisy and I've been trying to figure out how to put a motorcycle muffler on it. The problem is supporting something that's going to be vibrating. A lot. While typing this a solution suddenly occurred to me. High temperature" flexible hose.. This one for example is rated - "Inner Layer; -65 to 550". All I have to do is attach the motorcycle muffler to the side and then attach a loop of the tubing between the two. I'll probably have to have a fitting or two made by a welding shop though. ![]() |

even the military hasn't figured out a good way to muffle generators... good luck!

I've heard (no pun intended) that the auxiliary gas powered generators that are sold for use in a motor home park are fairly quiet. But they would also be a bit more than I paid for mine.
The original pipe attached between the motor and the so called muffler is quite small. A larger diameter attachment would allow the gas to expand while it traveled a distance greater than the original pipe. I'll have to check the engine size but I'm sure that most motorcycle mufflers for that size would be ok. After all a motorcycle muffler has to handle an engine that could run at faster speeds than the generator. So far I start it up once in the winter and once in the summer for a half an hour. It’s a 4 stroke engine. Any thoughts, one way or the other, on using one of the synthetic super lube oils? Sound level meters. Any one have one to lend? I could do a before and after. Amazon has one for $30, but I wouldn't have a use for it afterwards. |

I've had three operations to restore my right eardrum, and the one last year finally took (hallelujah!) except for a small hole which I can live with. For the 12 or 13 years it was blown out, though, I was ridiculously sensitive to noise, to the point that it really kind of shaped my life. I stopped going to loud restaurants or anywhere where there might be a big crowd. It seemed strange to me that I was actually LESS sensitive to loud noises once I had better hearing until I saw the results of my hearing tests, before and after. Before, I had lost the range speech falls in, but retained the range of all that crazy ambient noise. It played weird games with my filtering ability, I guess. Much better now.
I'm not sure what my point started out to be here (brain cramp!), except that sometimes with less hearing you can be actually more sensitive to noise. |

The moral of the story is that you are now prepared to stay with KK and her generator in case of disaster.
![]() Or if you have lots of food and stuff you can come with me. I’m thinking of getting a lot of strong workers people to help me establish a sod home community somewhere out west. All who call in the next 5 minutes will become nobility. If you don't call soon enough you can still come (providing that you have enough gold and food) but you'll have to settle on being serfs. ![]() Royal Acres is an equal opportunity kingdom. OOOPS!
