Huh? I get 'marsh lightning' from digging through the geology section of this:

http://mysite.du.edu/~etuttle/classi...in/latin20.htm

But then I never took Latin - ever. So are you afraid of a will 'o the wisp? I can understand fear of lightning rods - especially if it's raining...

I only did 6 months of it But I have a tendency to trace through the etymology on words, and obscure stuff sticks. The useful stuff doesn't so much...

Palus is also Latin for stake, which is what I based my translation on, and fulgur as flashing or lightning. So not knowing the Dutch for speed cameras, lightening rod made more sense than flashing pole (of course, Sweetpea might have had an aversion to Eastern European flashers...)

I didn't know that

I hear that arson is a very effective cure, if administered in a balaclava whilst approaching the camera away from the lens side... however as most of them are digital now, I believe, it won't help if it's already flashed you...

Actually, it's not me that has that fobia, but I rather have problems with other people who have that fobia... "oh, there's a speed camera over there, so, let's drive 20km/h under the speedlimit so I won't get caught". I drive past 2 on my way to work and again on my way home. I always drive the speedlimit (but not over it) and I never have been caught... So, why people decide they have to slow down to a crawl is a great mystery to me. I can only think of one reason, and that's a fulgurpalus fobia....

2? You are lucky. On my way to work I drive past.... let me see... 12, and home I think there is one less. 11, so 23 each day.

And I also go ape about the "Oh! Speedcam, lets slow down!" syndrome.

I mean, thats why cruisecontrol was invented, right?

Oh those people. Even worse when they're the "come speeding up behind you, cut in front then slam the anchors on until they're sat least 10mph slower than the speed limit, nearly causing an accident in the process"

I do have a major dislike (not phobia, though) of all those cameras - speed cameras, traffic cameras, cctv cameras etc.

What an odd camera...

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0911/09111001ricohgxr.asp

I like the idea of being able to swap the sensor. You could have different types of sensors optimized for different tasks. Much like in the film days. But why make the sensor and lens one unit? Okay sure, it makes it less likely for dust to get on the sensor. But it seems like this minor convenience would make the photographer's kit several times more costly... especially since your lenses, which on a traditional interchangeable system can easily outlast every other component, essentially become obsolete as new sensor technologies are introduced.

We went to see 2012 yesterday.

I really liked the movie! Fantastic special effects, plenty of humour, plenty of sad stuff, plenty of happy stuff and even more hand-crushing anticipation stuff...
