Tools Software Jailbreak for PW2, PW3, PW3W, KT2, KV, KOA and KT3

Howdy folks! The voyage prime day sale is looking mighty tempting, but I'd rather not shell out for it if I'm not going to be able to jailbreak it. (Lots of books, have grown very attached to my nested collections on my paperwhite). Does anyone know if the models currently shipping can be jailbroken?

No reports here of any shipping with a firmware version too new to be jail broken (yet).

Note:
Kindles have not supported nested collections since the early days of the original Kindle Touch.
(And not even the KT supports nested collections on its current software.)

Thanks for the quick reply, that's encouraging. I suppose they could always start, but that's more or less always a risk.

Are they still accepting returns for any reason? If so, you have nothing to lose other than some available credit. Order one and check the firmware level before allowing an internet connection. If the FW is OK, install the blocking directory to prevent an upgrade prior to JB of the unit. If you can't JB the FW level you receive, return it for a refund with your choice of excuses.

Quick answer, as far as we know, none have been shipped with the unbreakable software yet, but you need to install the update blocker before ever turning on the wifi.

i have a pw2 .... if i can jb this i switch this and give the pw2 to my mom :-P else my mom get the pw3 :-)

If your Kindle when it arrives is running a firmware version 5.7.anything, you can install the 'update blocker' directory name described in Step #7 to keep it from updating to something that can't be jailbroken (later).

I had also read some threads about kpw3 32g, so that means i don't need to do this because someone had already made it in order to contribute the firmware file or something else, but not jet jailbreak it?

So the current progress is:

1. if it is running 5.7.x, install the update blocker and wait for the jailbreak firmware
2. also wait for the maintainer of KindleTool's update
3. if it is 5.8.x, no hope unless using serial port jailbreak

Is my understanding right?

Close. Prior to 5.8.7 is known to work, 5.8.7* is possible but not guaranteed, 5.8.8 and beyond are currently only serial JB. Serial JB will work on any Kindle where the location of the serial port terminals have been located if you have the proper equipment.

I think the only kindle that doesn't have a serial port is the Oasis. Or should I say, it hasn't been located.

Looks like you can. It says: "Kindle e-readers, Fire tablets, Amazon Fire TV devices, Amazon Echo and Amazon Tap devices and their accompanying Amazon-branded accessories purchased from Amazon.com can be returned within 30 days of receipt of shipment as long as they are in new condition." Sounds manageable.

O.P. is writing about a PW3-32 and we do not have a 'factory-initial' file for that device.
The PW3-4Gbyte 'factory-initial' file will brick the PW3-32.
We have had a few users who have confirmed that with their own hands.

So I would say that three point list looks correct to me.

Once connected to the serial port can't you boot the diags partition and then install the developer keys directly to the main partition from there regardless of the firmware level of the main partition?

That is correct.
And then you need to open up the update_*.bin package that holds the 'hotfix' code and run that scripting 'by hand'.

And the same with any other update_*.bin package you want to use.
Because they are all model locked, and the model lists do not include the PW3-32 device models.
That is because KindleTool does not contain the PW3-32 device models.

So yes, the entire process can be done over the serial port - even including the installation of packages we do not have built for those models.
Not practical, but possible.
