Rant - Big Box hardware stores....

I need to replace some soaker hoses cut up by my digging of cannas, Ok, no problem, go to big box hardware store and buy soaker hoses and brass end replacements so I can cut to length. Go to big box store looking for 5/8 inch diameter soaker hoses. All they have this year are 1/2 inch soaker hoses. Grumble, grumble, less water flow, grumble. Go to get brass end replacements, they're all for 5/8 inch hose diameter. Can't be used on a 1/2 inch soaker hose! Have to go halfway across town to super-specialty hardware store. Find and buy 5/8 inch soaker hoses. Get home, rebuild and find a cut in one of 1/2 soakers I put in 10 years ago that would be difficult to replace. No 1/2 brass ends! Have to go back to super-specialty store to get end replacements. Stupid big box stores!!!! (And this is not just one brand-name box, but 2 of them doing the same thing!!!)

The electricty went out at my house today. It was off for about 1.5 hours.

Ok... so that's not the bad part...

The bad part is my Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP is no longer working. It just displays "Check Signal Cable"... I have tried everything. None of the buttons on it are responding at all either. I think it is done for.

UG! Working with 1 monitor is painful. I'm glad the surge/poweroutage didn't hurt the iMac.

(On the bright side, I have wanted to get a Dell 2208WFP but couldn't justify it while the 2001FP was working fine.)

Rant: I have not been able to sleep past 0230 since I moved (and I didn't even change time zones!). I have just under an hour of work left and am vainly trying to keep from nodding off.

Does somebody next door have an alarm (or a baby?) that goes off at 0230, waking you up? How about some light level ear plugs, till you get used to your new world? Make sure you can hear your alarm clock through them, though!

Just replace idiots with cyber criminals. Or idiots/cyber criminals, since my wasted day could have been down to either.

I sometimes wake about that time, get up and read a half hour or so and go back to sleep. It seems to work for me much better than trying to just go back to sleep.

That takes us into a subject broached in another thread (about escapism). Any book I've chosen to read, is NOT going to put me back to sleep! I'd probably still be reading it when the alarm finally goes off.

I suppose if I went and found a book that was not my normal style, it might work!

No, it's relatively quiet. There is some traffic noise from a highway. The eyes are just popping open then. I think as I get more settled I'll relax and be able to stay asleep through the night. I hope!

That normally works for me, but my brain has just insisted in doing the Energizer Bunny bit. Maybe I need to bring some tech manuals home!

Well it's time to log out and round my boss up (we carpool). At least I managed to not drop off!
