Thanks for your answer Ken Maltby.
My books are in the mobi format because I started with a Kindle and the Kobo reads mobis pretty well (except the minor problem of covers). So I have converted all my epub to mobi. The mobi books seem to have a cover because they are made using calibre (I hope) and the cover appears in my Kindle... I would be very grateful if you tried a mobi file to see if the cover appears when the kobo sleeps ?? |

I have been testing my Glo out of its sleep cover for the last few days and battery life has improved significantly with Koreader.
I am now wishing there was a setting in Koreader to ignore the sleep cover, because it does not recognise the Nickel setting for this. (I can't see a setting relating to the sleepcover anywhere in the Koreader files - am I correct?) |

@myki;
I did try the couple of .mobi files that I had on my AuraHD, and my default sleepcover is what was used for those files. The cover of the .epub version of the same ebook, is used as the sleepcover. @church mouse; The recent versions of Koreader have a "Screensaver" menu item, in the Reader menu. It has two options: "Use this book's cover as screensaver" and "Display proportional cover image in screensaver" You can have both options checked if you want. I guess you would want to uncheck the first one, for the book or books that you do not wish to use the cover. With it unchecked, the default image file that you point to in the advanced settings will be used. If you don't specify an image file to use, when the book's cover is not there or not found or not to be used. The little "Suspended..." msg box will be used. The magnetic switch is a hardware feature and appears to do more than just set an "event", I could be wrong but it appears to activate a hardware suspend function. If so, ignoring the magnet might not be an option.

Ken, you may not know, but in the original firmware it can be disabled, and magnetic cover does not turn on or off the device. (But I still understand it as a switch, and would not understand why consumption should increase depending on what way I turn it to sleep, by pressing a button, or giving it a magnet.) I still have the doubt, that sg. is in the range of the IR detectors, and his device can't properly suspend (in a Hungarian forum the issue just came up, the user have taken off the magnet from his cover, and later realised, that a pocket inside the cover was in the way of the IR, causing the higher consumption, not the megnat itself).

The sleepcover has never caused an issue when running nickel. If I switch to Koreader with sleepcover on I start getting excessive battery drain, but without the cover Koreader battery drain is far more comparable to nickel. With the sleepcover and Koreader I am switching the unit off manually but still I get the excessive drain so it is almost as though the unit is repeatedly coming in and out of suspend. Strange. I do like using Koreader, so for the moment I am changing to a non-magnetic cover and will monitor performance.
Thanks for your ideas. |

If you turn it off manually, please note, that it takes several (I mean more than 10!) seconds to enter suspend.

@Ken Maltby
I have converted all my books from mobi to epub. Now when I open an epub, the sleep cover works... But with mobi books, it never works... I don't know if it is a bug or just if this feature exists or not ?? |

When in the File Manager Advanced Options, selecting/poking the KOBO_SCREEN_SAVER = , will bring up a box to enter the address. You enter it without the quotes, they are added automatically. Luck; Ken |

Ebri, yes I am using the vlasovsoft version of suspend and preventfreeze set to false in KSM. With these changes and no magnetic cover I am getting acceptable battery usage on Koreader.
I don't understand why, but the magnetic cover causes issues using Koreader on my Glo but not for nickel. |
