I have enabled "Upload Black and White Covers", yet covers are still full-color.

I'm running Calibre v4.18.0 on linux. KTE driver is 3.2.9 (currently beta).

In [Collections, covers & uploads] tab, I have checkmarks for the [Upload Covers] and all 5 options within that section, including "Upload Black and White covers"
Yet when I examine the kepub on my Kobo in calibre viewer (while computer is connected to Kobo), the cover is still full-color.

Also, while we're at it, can we add the option to make all images (images in the book) to be grayscale too, to save on storage space?

The option is not about the copy of the cover in the book. If this option is not selected, the device generates and stores cover images as needed. This option lets calibre do that.

The transformation to kepub is done with only changes to the HTML code in the book and some styles. It isn't intended to do other work. A conversion will probably do it, but, I've never found it worth the hassle.

I see. With this option selected, it is Calibre (harnessing a computer's processing power) and not a Kobo device (with puny power) that generates the images.

But what I still don't understand: What's the point of generating grayscale images in the first place, if not to save space on the Kobo?

The point of generating images during the send is to use the power of the PC and generate better images. Generating them as greyscale is done for the same reason. The fine tuning of this was done by @NiLuJe as it is not something that I care that much about. From memory, the greyscale images are smaller than those generated by the device, but, it has been a while since I checked.

All the options have tooltips. You might want to check what they say about quality and size.

The answer is in the last line. The driver needs at least calibre version 2.60.0 to run. You will need to update calibre to use the driver.

Why are you running such an old and obsolete version of Calibre?

Jon, it does not matter why?

The bottom line of that error is clear.

The user has not complied with the PI requirements: a minimum of V2.6 of Calibre.

They have 2 choices: 1) don't use this PI. 2) Do what is needed to upgrade their Calibre. Their reason is not our concern.

It could be that some later version didn't work or that it could be some Linux with a seriously out-of-date version in the repository.

This works OK for Windows because there's basically only one kind of Windows, but there are many different kinds of Linux, and they're all potentially slightly different. For that reason there's no simple download you can put on a website that would work on all Linuxes. Linux basically uses app stores (since way before Apple coined the term "App Store") - each managed by whoever publishes that particular brand of Linux. The problem is that in this case they don't seem to be doing a great job of publishing Calibre correctly to their users.

That's why Flatpak is cool - it's a kind of app store that works for pretty much all kinds of Linux.

And using the repository you end up with all kinds of problems with Calibre. Just get it from the Calibre website and if you have trouble installing it, come to MR to ask for help.

After far too long, a new version is finally published. Calibre should offer it in the next couple hours. This fixes problems with spans being added in the wrong place, and an occasional issue where calibre expects to be able to call the logger object directly.

The ancient Chinese sure weren't joking around when they called "may you live in interesting times" a curse!

Something is not working correctly because I've not received the notification in Calibre of a new version.

Problem downloading new plugins?

Is there a problem with Calibre 4.18 and updated plugins? I've read that the KoboTouchExtended plugin and the KePub Output Plugin have both been updated and Calibre is not notifying that there are plugin updates.

I am running Windows 10 64-bit and Calibre 4.18 64-bit.
