They are all general purpose, not specific to device or firmware. You can find one marked: "Tutorial" in our sticky section. |

@fathermocker: The JB message only appears as-needed. If you don't see it it's either a good news (device is jailbroken), or a bad one (JB broken? Factory reset?). Which means, unless you did something very specific, that's not an issue.
Which leads us to the obvious question: define 'doesn't work'. i.e., what exactly happens when you try to launch KUAL? Last edited by NiLuJe; 12-22-2015 at 03:38 PM. |

Also, did you update KUAL?

![]() Wow. Now it's working. That... that's weird. I didn't do anything. Thanks anyway! I did. Running the latest version. It's magically working now. |

Methinks that was just the usual issue with the 2s Kindlet startup timeout on cold caches...
![]() (cf. KUAL's FAQ for the gory details. Short answer: setting up gnu awk might help). |

Alright, downgraded my PW1 5.6.1.1 to 5.3.3 following instructions HERE, seems to have stuck. Few questions before I proceed further:
Should I upgrade further to 5.4.4.2 prior to applying the jailbreak? Or does the JB itself update the FW to the max supported version? Then what? I'm basically after ePub support so I don't have to convert via Calibre anymore, so KOReader? Do I need to block OTA updates at all? Sounds like the JB remains intact even if I update, but I want to make sure I don't advance beyond a point of no return unintentionally. Sounds like Amazon likes to ninja updates if you've got your wifi active. Any better collection support? I thought I read some thread or another about better Calibre collection plugin support with a JB device, but I can't seem to find it at all. Finally, any additional font support? What prompted the JB was being annoyed that PW2+ got the 5.6.5 update with fancy new font, but no love for PW1 users. Not a fan of forced upgrades when my current device works just fine (with the obvious exceptions mentioned above). Thanks so much! |

The JB does not change the FW version. Quote:
Yes. It does, if you are using the most recent version. Quote:
Yes. Several choices. Quote:
So is the Librarian Sync application. Try the FGA for tips on searching here. At least one of our frequent visitors uses a combination of both. What you find in the Font Hack thread here. Quote:
You would still have the old layout engine though, so it might be a waste of time. I don't recall reading any posts from someone who has back-ported the Berkley fonts. Last edited by knc1; 01-11-2016 at 01:40 AM. |

I can confirm that LibrarianSync in tandem with the Kindle Collections* plugin for calibre is an absolute lifesaver.
![]() * -- in the calibre plugin index. You know the drill. It has all the necessary links. |

Need help please. The Paperwhite 2014 that we used in testing some of the jailbreak options at that time has developed an issue. It was not in use at the time and the battery needed charging so I plugged it into an outlet. When I came back to it saw the attached screen. I've tried several things to get out of it and nothing works. I'm not sure if this is an Amazon thing or some of the jb files/other files like this one which I did install if I remember correctly. I also had KUAL and other assorted goodies.
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...postcount=1495 Rebooting helped nothing as it just goes right back in to the same screen. Any ideas? It hasn't been on wifi since before we did all the testing of the modified jailbreak. Would really like to get it working again. Thanks for any and all help. Try:
'U' - Export USB connect USB cable, Kindle to PC delete any 'ENABLE_DIAGS' file(s) safely remove (or eject) disconnect USB cable Follow the 'Disable Diags', and 'Reboot' path (I think there is another menu after making that selection. Post your results. |
