Let's not forget French has a long history of enriching English.

- Mobipocket is a french company, founded in Paris in 2000.
- Feedbooks is more recent but arguably unique, and is french.
I don't know whether any of these were "first" but they do show at least a significant history here.
Oh didn't know feedbooks and mobipocket where french. Or that Jacques Attali wad one of Cytale's founder.

On the off-chance you are confused, let me explain the majority opinion matters little to me too, unless I came to interact or work with those people, then respecting majority of them and their opinion is the thing to do.
That's pretty common, unless you are a plain a-hole, I guess.
Not confused in the slightest. Respecting a majority opinion is not the same as agreeing with said opinion. Majorities of any kind disturb me, as they should any thinking person. And so does the common. The common is halfway between this and that, it's middle of the road, it's beige at its very core.

However, that is a very logical word evolution, since the first man made manifestation of electrons resulted from rubbing amber on wool to produce "static electricity".

Then I'd think Esperanto would be your best option. "To read" is "legi" and "ilo" is the suffix meaning "device", so I'd guess a reading device would most likely be "legilo". The 'g' is hard, as in 'get', not 'gin'. Or maybe "librilo", a device for books.

For the sake of preserving intact and in good shape and spirits all the linguistic prides here, i propose we all to adopt a portuguese word for it, elegant, pretty and equally hard to spell and say both for francophones and anglophones.

Hey, we (european portugueeeezers) are only 10 million so no need to feel threatened any of you.

If you read a word (or hear it), then you are using it. In fact, much of the college entrance exam that I took was testing me on my knowledge of words that I would probably never write or speak myself.

Now, I started posting because some people deny doing something that they are obviously doing. So we are arguing about facts, rather than discussing whether the word should be used.

There are a number of people that want "liseuse" to be used, so let them give reason for its use, instead of denying their desire to promote it.

Some people in this thread have done that, and that is good. Let us continue that.

So, what is "book" or "e-book"?

I thought that la liseuse means "the reader" as in someone who reads, rather than a reading device...

I think ebook is better.

So does "reader". The device doesn't read, after all, it only displays things on its screen.
