Another vote for the Herriot books. My favourite is James Herriot's Dog Stories: Warm And Wonderful Stories About The Animals Herriot Loves Best - especially the story about "Cedric the Farting Boxer". The first time I read it I thought I was going to die laughing and crying. Here's a blog entry from another fan of Herriott that describes a visit to the Yorkshire Dales and a fiberglass cow exhibit that you can "insert your arm into the hoo-hoo to pull out/deliver the calf..." -- no kidding!

Just a little something to brighten your day, and think about the Yorksire countryside!

I recently got this collection of 28 Wilbur Smith books in Microsoft Reader (.lit) format on ebay (CD for $8.99 + $1.95 shipping)

and they converted very nicely in Calibre. ebay also has the same types of collections from the UK in PDF/LRF format. I like the Egyptian stories - River God and Seventh Scroll.

I am an avid re-reader and try to own the complete series of my favourite authors in pbooks, ebooks and audio versions. Here's a "short" list (I ran out of space for pbooks a LONG time ago...):
1. My All Time Favourite Author Robert A. Heinlein - love all the books! Most re-read books: The Door Into Summer, To Sail Beyond the Sunset, The Cat Who Walks Through Walls, Friday
2. Rex Stout - All Nero Wolfe novels
3. Agatha Christie - All, especially Harley Quin
4. Dorothy Sayers - All, especially Gaudy Night (in which Harriet accepts Lord Peter's proposal) and Busman's Honeymoon (in which Lord Peter marries his Harriet)
5. Ngaio Marsh - All, especially Death and the Dancing Footman, Black as He's Painted
6. John D.MacDonald Travis McGee novels - especially The Lonely Silver Rain (in which he meets his daughter for the first time)
7. M.C. Beaton - Hamish Macbeth, Agatha Raisin stories
8. Michael McGarrity - New Mexico comes to life in his books
9. Simon Brett - Charles Paris, Mrs Pargeter and Fethering series

Other well-worn notables on my bookshelf/audiobooks collection
Kurt Vonnegut - Galapagos
Wilkie Collins - Moonstone (the unabridged Audible version with 4 narrators enthralls!)
Sax Rohmer - Fu Manchu stories
Edgar Rice Burroughs - Princess of Mars series
John Mortimer - Rumpole stories

I have previously noted my affection for James Herriot books, especially the dog stories. Cedric the Farting Boxer is one you just HAVE to read if you get a chance, but make sure you have a box of tissues handy. BTW I noticed how many MR members love not only reading, but pets, both dogs and cats - is there some relationship there? Maybe a poll is in order? Apologies for the long post, but I couldn't stop myself...

Not available in the US! Wow, now I know how all the Europeans usually feel when trying to buy ebooks. The tables turned here.

Six of One by Rita Mae Brown. I read this book a couple of times a year. It never fails to make me laugh! After the third time I read it I decided which actors should play which parts if ever a movie was made. So far that has not happened, but I keep hoping! This book will make you laugh, guaranteed.

I'ts getting even more ridiculous UK geo restrictions are now blocking even more ebooks to me from the UK.

Means I can't buy an English language copy of many ebooks anywhere - totally ludicrous

I rarely re-read anything as I just feel there are far too many books I've never read that I won't get to before I do. But there are a few children's books that are an exception. I have read The 101 Dalmations by Dodie Smith probably about 20-30 times or so, maybe even more. Rascal by Sterling North, at least 10 times, probably more.

I haven't read any of them in years though. The last time I read 101 Dalmations was around the time that the live action Disney movie with Glenn Close was released. It made me nostalgic, so I bought another copy of the book and read it. It is still in my library.

Oh, wait, there is one adult book I've read more than once -- Memories by Mike McQuay. It's a a very interesting time travel SF novel, which is sadly out of print. It's the only book I've bought twice on purpose

One book I often re-read, and I think I'll do a lot in future, is Lord of the Rings, from Tolkien. It accompanied me in a very hard disease, and love it by many reasons. I always enjoy it when I choose to read it again.

Another is The Princess bride, by William Goldman. It always make me laugh. An ex friend borrowed it and I loss contact and the book... I could not sleep until I get it again!

Thank you for the post, I'm taking note of a lot of interesting titles.

The novel Confederacy of Dunces is a comedic classic set in New Orleans. I laugh every time. The author, John Kennedy Toole, breaks a lot of writing rules and yet still pulls it off -- a tough thing to do in humor fiction let alone any novel.

I first read Tolkien's Ring Trilogy in my mid twenties, again at 50 and at 65 I suspect I shouldn't tarry on my 3rd reading.
