Ubuntu all the way unless you play computer games.

My primary machine is a mac though and it's simply incredible, so if you can get the cash together, go for that!

that is true, but it looked way too heavy for my feeble brain and i also know that my lappie would not boot from a usb stick - there is no option in the bios and Smart Boot Manager also did not provide that as a solution.

it's all moot anyhow - as the method I used was successful.....
