What does under the title mean. This is vertical text the author can be to the right or the left of the title. It is currently to the right of the title.

Even better, dispense with it in the booklist context menu, and have a Group by button in the Search bar, after the Sort by button. That would make it's visible to everyone.

I dont follow, how is this different than my option of increasing the min_spine_width when using two lines? The downside of this is that there will be less variation in widths since the distance between min_spine_width and max_spine_width is reduced.

Yeah, just woke up see that. Similiar in mind but you worked on a above level.

And the fact we can choose we want to enforce the second line or make it optional is a nice touch that elegant solve the downside side of that. Thanks.

Hey Kovid, I was looking to add a PagesStatus dialog in the same way of the BackupStatus, but looking deeper I affraid that put all the ids in the queue risk to hit the queue limit.
So now my idea is to create a routine, like the one for the backup files, that scan all the books that need scan, regardless of the queue but at a lower pace than MaintainPageCounts.
This can be usefull because the book are put in queue only when requested in the bookshelf view or if the Page column is visible, but not when it requested by the template which result to forever return 0 for pages that was never display before (and in big library that a lot of books).
Also, have a special value "calculating" rather than guess it from 0 could be probaly helpfull for template etc.

I'm still looking do it not too dirty, but you would certainly do a better job than me.

I dont really see the need for such a dialog. Unlike backup pages calculation is quite fast and once triggered it will maintain itself for new books automatically.

And if you do want to get page counting status you simply do first

db.queue_pages_scan()

and anytime you want to know which books need scanning, do

db.pages_need_scan() to get a set of book ids that remain to be scanned.

A few more nits:

• I'm not seeing Pages update after editing a book using Calibre's "Edit book" to add / remove content.
• Restoring a book from recently deleted leaves Pages set to 0.
• After manually trigger "Re-count pages" from right clicking details, the displayed Pages count doesn't update until the library view updates for some other reason.
• Is there somewhere to manually trigger "Re-count pages" for multiple books, but not the entire library?

A bit more questionably:

• Restoring a book format doesn't recalc Pages, even if it's the only format.

I can see an argument being made it shouldn't need to. FanFicFare users are bit atypical in changing the length of existing books regularly -- I sometimes use 'restore recently deleted format' to reverse an FFF change.

I had the first function, but yeah, I think that displaying the number of book pending a scan on the button in the settings will be enough.

And based on the recent change on second function and more experimentation, I probaly have a better and simpler idea to creat this routine for "scan all pending books". Thanks.

1. Could the "Show shadow for hovered cover" setting be changed to a drop down menu: e.g. "Show cover on hover" with three options:
   
   
   • Don't show cover;
   • Show cover with shadow;
   • Show cover with no shadow.
2. The settings in Tweak->Control behavior of the book list should be respected, specifically the doubleclick_on_library_view, and the enter_key_behavior settings.
   
   
   
   As they are in List and Grid View.
   
   Cover Browser respects the enter_key_behavior setting but not the doubleclick_on_library_view setting -
   
   I just noticed that the Cover Browser has its own context menu, IMO there should be a setting in L&F->Cover browser to use the Book list context menu.
