I am planning to buy a couple of books, kitchen appliances and PS4 games during the Black Friday sale.

I bought one of these today:
https://www.amazon.com/Roku-Streamin...dp/B075XLWML4/ $30 off regular price. I didn't need it but it was a good deal. Those Amazon tablets are nice. I bought the 8" HD last year during black friday, and the 10" HD the year before that. |

I bought slippers at Kohls (to keep my feet warm while I read, so it counts for the forum, right?)
Also some usb flashdrives at Best Buy. I have a few stocking stuffers to pick up, but I am mostly done. |

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06442766 The processor is 3200U, a 2-core, 4-thread mobile processor with a Passmark score of 4675 which should be plenty for your needs, similar to older AMD A10's. The i3 8100 is a true desktop processor with 4 cores ans a Passmark score of 8000 (close to my 2nd gen core i7). There's hardly any difference between the two GPU's. So unless you plan to add at least another 4GB to the Dell, I'd also lean toward the HP. The HP appears to have HDMI but not DVI, so make sure you have or get a monitor with HDMI (watch out for heavily discounted DVI-only models). One thing though - you mentioned Word but not Excel. If you do much with Excel the faster i3 in the Dell would become a much bigger factor IMO as Excel is very good at maxing out all 4 cores on CPU-intensive operations like big VLOOKUPs... |

Amazon Cyber Monday -- 30 Nov ~ 02 Dec
Bottom line: not everything on sale for Back Friday will be on sale for Cyber Monday. Most of the items will be priced the same, but some will be priced higher and some will be priced lower. See Amazon's Black Friday post for prices. Cyber Monday prices are in red. Quote:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...080_em_1p_6_lm It's an HP 6-core i5 for $339. No SSD but the Optane memory is supposed to provide some of the same benefit. Edit> The i5-8400 in this system has a passmark score of 11500, far surpassing the other 2 systems. Last edited by cc_in_oh; 11-26-2019 at 10:35 AM. |

Possible? Certainly. But there goes your cost savings, and you'd best be up to doing all of that yourself. Personally, I'd stick with a machine that already has an SSD.

But I don't think you're giving up that much with the Optane - mostly a bit longer boot time but Win10 has cut that down to the point where it's no longer that big of a deal. |

Iirc, saw the Intel QLC 1TB M.2 NVMe for $85 in a BF ad. I use Macrium Reflect free for cloning drives. |
