I am using my Kindle almost every day for news and e-books.

If the e-book market is declining it's better for the guys who stick at it. Knowledge is power.

I live in the Seattle area where the weather is usually overcast and wet. Since I don't care for wet I do my reading indoors.

That could get you killed also, given that you can't hear your surrounding area.

I do like audio books when I am driving though.

Depends on where you walk and what type of headphones. I don't normally use the earplugs that block out most external noise. I can still hear traffic coming up behind me. Walking in the park is nicer anyway.

I do most of my reading either on public transport or in bed. On the former, it's so great to have something I can easily hold in one hand and make button page turns with that hand while standing and holding on with the other, and I can make the font bigger so I don't have to wrestle getting out my reading glasses.
In bed, I like to lie flat, so as not to mess up my neck, and I can easily hold my Kindle with one hand before my face. Ereaders have been an all-around blessing for me. They aren't going anywhere, especially with an aging population!

Like some here, I read wherever I can. If I know I'm going to waiting somewhere, I'll grab an eReader for the trip. If not, I'll read on my Blackberry Q10 (sometimes I have to change seats in the car to get out of the glare). My wife is a doula/birth educator and sometimes she makes house calls further out than normal, so she'll ask me to drive. The last long drive was Possum Kingdom (yeah it really exists) and she had a long (about a 3 hour) visit, so I was able to sit on the bench by the lake and read on my Kindle. Glad I brought it along. (Non weekend, out of season, so there was no one there.) Not quite the Bahamas ...

I prefer pbooks for 'reading' in the sun as no device for reading ebooks balances properly on my nose.

On a more serious note most of my reading is indoors and I have pdfs and books with color that I find are best read on tablets (I am not fond of reading pdfs on a vertical screen) and I don't have eyestrain problems reading on the tablet so I have not been able to justify buying an ereader for myself even though they do have definite advantages. My older children and husband have kobos as they do not have or need personal tablets.

I may have come close to meeting one of your spiritual cousins. I was one of the people who honked at her as she danced off the curb totally oblivious to 2 lanes of traffic turning left on a green left turn signal. "I am pedestrian! I have the right of way!" "Stop and look both ways? Bleep that crap!"

I am finding more and more sympathy for the people pushing for distracted walking legislation.

As a Vancouver resident, I know what you mean. OTOH, on those rare days when you can go outdoors without testing your ereader's waterproofing, I like to wander down to a local park and have lunch/read. Just watch for the dive bombers.

I use both e ink and tablet for reading, but have started to use the e ink devices more lately. I can certainly see the differences in how people use both and why.

Story : I became a grandmother for the first time in December, my daughter and I took the baby out in a stroller when we had the first nice warm 60's day, a couple weeks ago. We walked in her neighborhood and I saw for the first time a free library box ( looks like a very colorful mail box.) I asked " Whats that ? " She told me ,it has free books inside that people in the neighborhood donate for others to read." So we went over, and she asked if I wanted a book ? I said no I use an e reader now. She asked , but don't you read paper books too ? I said only sometimes, but not very often anymore. She said oh yeah you gave me a Kindle right ? I replied yes, don't you use it ? She said only at the beach. The rest of the time I read on my phone.

So I can certainly understand that people read on different devices for different reasons. She did take a paper book from the book box though. She said sometimes she just likes holding a book too.

[QUOTE=cfrizz;3664985These disagreements will stop just as soon as all the e-ink snobs get over themselves and stop claiming superiority over all digitals readers.[/QUOTE]

There seem to be a lot of paper book snobs and e-ink snobs and certainly no shortage of Ipad snobs. Maybe you should consider starting a movement of phone-reader snobs.

I read mostly on e-ink and partly on my phone. I like both. What kind of snob can i be?

My earlier post was pretty clearly describing my particular experience at my workplace and had no intentional judgement on what device anyone uses. That this was not obvious is a little sad in this forum of readers.

That this became anything at all seems a little stupid to me.

I concur with multiple others' responses to your comments in this thread, so rather than piling on, I'll merely add the following observation to the conversation: the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project has quantitatively classified readers of different types, e.g., in "The rise of e-reading" (April 4, 2012) and in "Reading Habits in Different Communities" (December 20, 2012). Whether one takes issue with Pews' study or not, using terms like theirs, rather than "real reader", to describe various types of readers is more reliable and valid (to use statistical terms), and is more objective (i.e., avoids even the appearance of being judgmental), and it puts discussants "on the same page", so to speak.
If the Pew study wasn't focused explicitly on my work place, I really don't care, as that was all I was (pretty clearly to me) referring to.

Read on what suits you. Regardless of what people here seemed to take from it, I have no strong opinions on using an e-ink screen vs. an LCD screen vs. paper

In my world, outdoors is for walking, gardening, picnicking, swimming, sitting on the beach, sitting next to the pool, playing with the dog. For all of those activities except gardening and swimming I have my e-reader with me. There is ALWAYS down time, even if it's just a few minutes while I wait for the dog to find the ball/frisbee and bring it back. During that downtime I read.

Isn't it wonderful that we all have choices?
