I think if we want a new firmware (EPUB) we have to buy a new device (OPUS).
bookeen, I need no more. |

The ePub firmware will come in a near futur, you must NOT buy an Opus to have ePub. The only thing is that ePub firmware is not ready yet for make an official upgrade.
Some may argue that they now sell Opus with ePub firmware, but I think that it's not the same beast to install a firmware on a new device, than installing it in an already existing device... Last edited by Godzil; 08-20-2009 at 09:16 AM. |

The Opus firmware is "v1.9", which suggests to me that it's still regarded as a beta version. It's certainly a little buggy, still.

Hi Godzil and HarryT
What I don't understand is that the firmware already have in OPUS. So, why not release bookeen to Gens3. Does the work is very great? |

Does this thread really need to be a sticky since it's old and obsolete?

Their numbering is still a miracle to me... The latest Gen3 FW is v1.4 and the Opus is a new device (and why jump from Gen3 v1.4 to Opus v1.9 - what's the BIG improvements/changes?!).
Logically the first released Opus FW should be v1.0 (or maybe v1.1, but not v1.9)! Maybe someone at Bookenn came up with "hey, let's just start the Opus FW numbering with v1.9 - now that'll puzzle them...". ![]() |

Maybe because the firmware inside the opus, and more exactely the software (BooReader) is the same application in both Gen3 and Opus, so changing the numbering would be a pain for everyone is the Opus and Gen3 use different version for the same application?
I suspect that the 1.9/2.0 will be the ePub version, and currently sold Gen3 with 1.4 version will be the mobipocket one. |

![]() In fact, this'll be even more confusing (normally higher number = more advanced) and will the Opus Mobi-FW (if it ever comes) be v1.4?! Not very logical or transparent and misleading for the user... |

That was not what they said to us, the Opus and the Gen3 will get the SAME firmware update. An update for the Opus will work for the Gen3 and ViceVersa

If the problem really only was with the ePub version and even though there is no problem with the mobi version Bookeen is not releasing that one, that would be telling their customers: "We know that most of our existing customers have DRMed mobi books and therefore need primarily the mobi version. It's ready and sitting right here on my desk but we don't give it to you because we think it would be more fun (for us) to make you wait even longer without any need." I am very certain that not even Bookeen is voluntarily frustrating their customers without any reason whatsoever. I am therefore convinced that the mobi version is NOT ready for release and still needs some work. (What I don't understand, however, is how they can give a beta firmware which is so broken they can't fix it in 2 months to existing customers, as they did at the Paris meeting. This defeats every know logic.) |
