I tend to just type in the browser's address bar. If it's a URL, it goes to the URL. If it isn't, it does a Google search (and if it's a book, the Amazon page will usually be the top result).

I've seen this suggestion (that Amazon is the most popular search engine for books) many times, but this thread is the first time I've seen it challenged.

I have only seen that on author forums not reader forums.

I honestly can't remember where I've seen it, but it seems to get repeated a lot. Now I think about it, it was probably on podcasts, so I suppose I should have said that I'd heard it many times

They were probably author podcasts (possibly also some blogs). This is the only reader forum I tend to spend any time on, and I haven't spent much time on here recently.

I usually cut/paste book titles in Amazon's search box when I go through my daily freebie feeds. I prefer to avoid the affiliate tags sites add to their links.

When I saw that I was under the (probably mistaken) impression that it was for searching for new books to read - not a specific title.
