New, Highly-Rated Study Bible--NIV, Lifehacks Bible. $3.99 through June 24.

I had gotten to the point that I was getting tired of seeing the same study Bibles appear again and again as markdowns. Maybe you had, too. It was exciting to see this new NIV study Bible in my looking around the Internet today (Tuesday). It appears that it has not been published for very long. The reason that I'm posting it is that it is marked down, by 69%, to only $3.99.

This study Bible uses the 2011 edition NIV text, according to the copyright information given in the beginning part of the book. I believe that I am correct (I haven't personally checked yet) in saying that this edition drops the "gender-neutral" language that was adopted in the previous edition, known as Today's New International Version (complete Bible published in 2005). I don't know what other changes that there might be in the 2011 text.

I can't speak for the newness and quality of the maps and other such helps/aids, as they were not included in Amazon's preview that I perused, but the comments and practical helps/aids looked new and seemed to be pretty good.

NIV, Lifehacks Bible, eBook: Practical Tools for Successful Spiritual Habits. "Special Edition." By Joe Carter. Rated 4.1 stars, but from only 11 reviews at Amazon; rated 4.40, but from only 5 ratings at GoodReads; rated 4.5, but from only 5 reviews at Christianbook (ePub). Print list price $34.99; digital list price $12.99; Kindle price now $3.99. Zondervan, publisher. 1632 pages. https://www.amazon.com/NIV-Lifehacks.../dp/B01863JPAI.

This ebook is available at Christianbook.com, for $3.99 also, but in the ePub format. It is not DRM-Free. The ebook and deal are probably available at most, if not all, of the other major ebook retailers.

Book Description
A “Lifehack” describes any advice, shortcut, tip or skill that will help you get things done more efficiently and effectively.

The
NIV Lifehacks Bible uses “lifehacking” methods to give you practical and achievable tools to integrate spiritual habits into your busy, technology-centric, 21st century life. With 365 articles covering 30 life-changing disciplines, not only does this Bible illuminate scriptural wisdom on spiritual practices, it provides practical tips and strategies for applying them every day.

You’ll find these and other articles inside the Bible:

- 4 Tips for Making Wise Decisions

- 6 Steps for Interpreting the Bible

- 7 Questions for Recognizing Intentional Sins

- 4 Tips for Finding Time to Pray

Featuring a foreword by author and theologian Kevin DeYoung, the
NIV Lifehacks Bible is full of common-sense articles on foundational topics such as: prayer, self-reflection, character formation, and fasting. The Bible then features advice and helpful tips for building habits around these disciplines.

Why not just move the sticky about ereaders to the ereader forum and leave this one a sticky then? It would make sense to have the ereader sticky in the ereader forum.

Free E-Book: Communion with the Triune God by John Owen

Does it make a difference that the God Christians claim to worship has revealed himself as triune—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? Does this fundamental truth of biblical authority have an effect on a believer's personal fellowship with God?

Puritan theologian John Owen recognized the great need for every believer to understand the triune God. Communion with the Triune God revisits the truth presented by John Owen and challenges all believers to truly recognize and appreciate the ministry that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit have in their lives.

Cross-posted to the Audiobooks thread:

This month's freebie at ChristianAudio:
The Mingling of Souls
Scott Chandler & Jared C. Wilson (Narrator)

Quote:
FREE audiobook download for this month (normally $14.98)
In a culture where the foundations of attraction, love, marriage, and sex are rapidly eroding, Matt Chandler offers an eternal, counter-intuitive perspective from the biblical book of Song of Solomon. Scripture says we’re to nurture our hearts above all else — yet we are inundated with songs, movies, and advice that contradict and cheapen God’s design for love and intimacy. In The Mingling of Souls, he reveals the process Solomon himself followed — Attraction, Courtship, Marriage...even Arguing.

ETA 2: That was quick. Back to regular price on these top two. The two at the bottom are still on sale, though.

Need a (US) patriotic Bible?

NIV Liberty Bible: Rediscover the Faith of Our Nation's Founders and How Their Beliefs Shaped America is $.99. There are a few short articles about some of the founding fathers and their Christianity, but it's otherwise a regular NIV.

The American Patriot's Bible (NKJV Edition): The Word of God and the Shaping of America is $2.99. This one has a few more articles than the NIV one above, but it's still more of a "theme" Bible than a study Bible.

As an aside, while comparing Bibles, I noticed that the ebook for the 2011 NIV has been updated with maps since I bought it on 2013. The file dates in the updated epub are December, 2015. Barnes & Noble and Amazon update books automatically, so if you're like me and just download once, be sure to check for the updated edition. If you bought it from Kobo, I've read that customer service will update your ebook if you ask, but I've never tried.

Here are the two versions' tables of contents in ADE:

Old:

New:

ETA: I didn't see these two patriotic NKJVs when I was looking:

The American Woman's Bible is $2.99 and The Duck Commander Faith and Family Bible is $1.99.

Quote:
There have been phenomenal advances in the historical understanding of Jesus and his world and times, but also huge, lesser known advances in first–century Palestine archaeology that explain a great deal about Jesus, his followers, and his teachings. This is the first book that combines the two and it does it in a fresh, accessible way that will interest both biblical scholars and students and also the thousands of lay readers of Biblical Archaeology Review (150,000+ circulation), National Geographic, and other archaeology and ancient history books and magazines. Each chapter of the book focuses on a major modern archaeological or textual discovery and shows how that discovery opens a window onto a major feature of Jesus's life and teachings.

In case you're curious, CMI used to be the Australian wing of Answers in Genesis. About ten years ago, there was a weird coup where Ken Ham's Answers in Genesis in the US split from the Australian group headed by Carl Weiland and took the name, so now they're two separate organizations.

If you're a fan of Simcha Jacobovici, two of his collaborative works are on sale right now. If you don't know who he is, he's sort of a sensationalist archaeologist in the spirit of the old "In Search Of..." TV series, but his usual focus is Israel and the Bible. You can read his blog if you're interested. Personally, I love his documentaries and books, but double-check his sources and take everything he says with a grain of salt.

The Lost Gospel: Decoding the Ancient Text that Reveals Jesus' Marriage to Mary the Magdalene by Simcha Jacobovici and Barrie Wilson is $2.99.

Quote:
Waiting to be rediscovered in the British Library is an ancient manuscript of the early Church, copied by an anonymous monk. The manuscript is at least 1,450 years old, possibly dating to the first century. And now, The Lost Gospel provides the first ever translation from Syriac into English of this unique document that tells the inside story of Jesus’ social, family, and political life.

The Lost Gospel takes the reader on an unparalleled historical adventure through a paradigm shifting manuscript. What the authors eventually discover is as astounding as it is surprising: the confirmation of Jesus’ marriage to Mary Magdalene; the names of their two children; the towering presence of Mary Magdalene; a previously unknown plot on Jesus’ life (thirteen years prior to the crucifixion); an assassination attempt against Mary Magdalene and their children; Jesus’ connection to political figures at the highest level of the Roman Empire; and a religious movement that antedates that of Paul—the Church of Mary Magdalene.

Part historical detective story, part modern adventure, The Lost Gospel reveals secrets that have been hiding in plain sight for millennia.
The Jesus Discovery: The Resurrection Tomb that Reveals the Birth of Christianity by James D. Tabor and Simcha Jacobovici is $3.99.

B&N

Quote:
The Jesus Discovery is the story of a stunning new discovery that provides the first physical evidence of Christians in Jerusalem during the time of Jesus and his apostles.

In 2010, using a specialized robotic camera, authors Tabor and Jacobovici explored a previously unexcavated tomb in Jerusalem from around the time of Jesus. They made a remarkable discovery—two ossuaries, or bone boxes, one carved with the earliest known image of Jonah; the other displaying a reference to resurrection. Since the newly discovered ossuaries can be reliably dated to before 70 AD, it is possible that whoever was buried in this tomb knew Jesus and heard him preach. In addition, the newly examined tomb is in close proximity to the so-called Jesus Family Tomb, and its discovery increases the likelihood that the “Jesus Family Tomb” is, indeed, the real tomb of Jesus of Nazareth.

Some may not recognize the name, but Simcha was (and maybe is, I don't know if this series is still being produced) the host and producer of a show called the Naked Archaeologist. In each show, he pursues some question related to the Bible (the Old Testament, at least). In every episode he comes up with an answer that was invariably, it seems, is novel and goes against the prevailing scholarly opinion.

More recently, Simcha has achieved notoriety because of a claim that he, along with a scholar named James Tabor who heretofore, at least, had great academic credentials, made about a tomb in the Talpiot neighborhood of Jerusalem. They claim that it is the tomb of Jesus of Nazareth and his family. That's the subject of The Jesus Discovery book that you posted. The implications of that are enormous if what the book says is true--it would seem to have to mean that Jesus Christ was not resurrected (physically/bodily, at least) from the dead.
