The 2016 Annual Reading Challenge Discussion Thread - Page 14

My reading challenge is going really well. I've read 27 books so far this year and if I continue on at the pace I'm reading, I expect to surpass my goal of 100 books. I do expect I'll slow down a bit once I hit April, based on previous years. It's a lot easier to plow through 3/4 books a week when the weather is awful.

Have updated the List thread to include the "Something for Everyone" challenge, where we aim to read a book in each of the suggested categories. And in some categories, that will be a real challenge for me.

^Good thinking. I should add mine there as well. Yep, that challenge is probably a total bust for me, but you never know.

I didn't take a slot in the list thread because I can barely remember to update my two threads on Goodreads, so adding a third place to update wouldn't work for long.

I did, however, link to my main challenge thread on GR in my sig, and there's a link in that thread to my Something for Everyone challenge.

The Something for Everyone challenge looks interesting as a way to get myself to branch out a bit so I am going to track and see how I do on it but am not going to push too hard since there are a couple categories I highly doubt I will finish. Many of the categories will come down to where do I want to place this book and might get re-arranged later to fill in gaps.

For my SFE, part of the challenge is rationalizing books into the various categories. It adds an entertaining aspect to it, especially since I nearly always end up just reading whatever I want to anyway.

Absolutely!

Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit count as poetry, right? I mean there are some songs in there, which are just poems with a melody, right?

That's probably the closest I will get in that particular category.

Poetry I might do. I do read some every now and then and I've been meaning to read The Grey Islands by John Steffler.

I'll probably go with Rumi for poetry. Or maybe one of the volumes of the Everyman's Library Pocket Poets. I've got quite a bit of poetry on my shelves.

I thought The Hobbit was a road trip book.

Quite true. And technically it could probably be considered an autobiography since it was "written" by Bilbo Baggins about his adventure.

My own occupation might be hard too, although I did read one a couple years ago. I figure I will just need to use a broader definition instead of my specialty/degree.

Think we should have a competition to see who can get one book to fit the most categories
