Vera knew Harv'd be home soon. She could nearly feel the rumble of his semi through the floor of the trailer. It'd been a long haul. At first of course she liked having him out of her hair. She could air out the trailer, go out with her girlfriends, get a little readin' done. (Harv's idear of literature was the Victoria's Secret catalog. Vera knew the secret, she thought to herself as she squeezed and wriggled into a teddy. Them models ain't got no bosoms.)

But a woman needs her man, no matter what cousin Peg said, always going on about her various DEE-vices and such. Ain't no "thingie" could guzzle a six-pack, slap and tickle, and throw her around the bedroom like her man. It takes a MAN to move a gal her size, she thought.

One more glance around the kitchenette to make sure all was ready... pork chops and taters with ketchup, his favorite. Cherry pie just starting to bubble in the oven, the filling oozing out here and there, just like me in my teddy, she thought, with a giggle that turned into a snort-snort-snort.

Oh Lordy, he's home... and already hitching hisself out of his overalls before he'd even reached the door. Vera had just enough time to think, "guess I'll be reheating dinner later" as she braced herself for a flying tackle. The trick's to roll with it, she thought.

Ah, yes, the three rules of online forums like this:

1) There is a form of topic gravity that tends to drag all threads into the gutter.

2) If a comment can be interpreted in more than one way, it will be interpreted in the way you didn't intend, especially if the possible interpretation is salacious.

3) If the topic isn't drifting into the gutter, topic proctors will be happy to shove it in, head first.

you've noticed that too then... be careful what you say around here, you have no idea where a perfectly innocent remark can lead.

trust me on this.

(you should do a forum search for harv and vera though if you haven't met them yet ; they're recurring characters around here and the saga of their Everlasting Love is worth following from the beginning.)

FYI, if any of you do have severe floaters, there is one doctor who is experimenting with a laser treatment to "burn up" the floaters. I've been tempted.
I've only looked at the Wikipedia article, and not the sources, but, although it now mentions the laser treatment, a previous version of this part of the page said:

"This procedure can be time-consuming and there is no consensus as to how completely effective it is. One study found laser vitreolysis "to be a safe but only moderately effective primary treatment conferring clinical benefit in one third of patients"."

However, this bit is gone from Wikipedia now. My point is, if it was me and I'd seen this, I'm be researching the crap out of it first (I know, that's probably a given).

Did your blood pressure change after the operation (due to lifestyle changes perhaps)? Did you stop eating certain foods (eg. coffee)? I think there is probably a logical connection, perhaps associated with "triggers"...as you know as a migraine-sufferer though, it's just bloody hard to find it!

Mum stopped getting migraines as often when she went on blood pressure medication. I get them much less if I stop drinking coffee (you would think I would stop drinking coffee then, wouldn't you? ).

My SO suffers from migraines. Hers are due to a list of food allergies as long as your arm. No seafood. No meats preserved with nitrites. No red wine. No chocolate. Don't even look at a fresh pepper (though oddly, dried peppers are not a problem.)

She grew up on seafood, living in an area near the sea. The migraines didn't come on till she hit puberty. she's been known to grab my arm and whimper when we pass a place serving soft shell crab, because she loves it. Unfortunately, it doesn't love her.

Although not a trigger for me, anything containing capsaicin (chillis, capsicum, etc) can often be a partial or total relief (a good Thai curry works well at this juncture). I've been known to swig a large tablespoon of sweet chilli sauce for relief, after all the usual drugs have failed. I remember reading in the New Scientist article that blood pressure can strongly be associated with migraine, so the effect of capsaicin (positive or negative) doesn't surprise me.

There are people here who will be shocked and distraught by the "chocolate" reference. Oddly, in the last couple of years, chocolate has become a trigger for me where it wasn't before (white chocolate is less so, though too much sugar can also be a trigger).

I've never noted any seafood connection, though my awareness of triggers is not thorough. I'll have to start making a migraine diary though, as they've been coming back where they'd previously left me in peace for at least a month at a time.

As mentioned, dried peppers aren't a problem. It's only fresh ones. So it isn't clear that capsicum per se is a cause.

She can eat it, but not very much of it. She doesn't especially like it, so that's not a huge loss. I have no problem with it, but it isn't one of my favorite foods, and it doesn't normally occur to me to buy it.

The SO can't go near it. She's made noises about saying "Screw it!" and going for a lobster dinner, knowing she'll be prostrate in 72 hours with a blinding migraine. I tell her to go right ahead, abut not to expect me to be sympathetic or provide nursing services when it occurs. I'll go somewhere else for the duration. "I guess that means I shouldn't do it, then." "Right!"

We suspect that freshwater fish won't; be a problem, but haven't gotten around to confirming that by experiment.

Thank you, PH. It's nice to see that Harv and Vera (and pie, of course) are still alive. But I see they're ailing a touch in this thread about the frailties of the mere physical body. Must return now to the concerns of the mind and the unearthly deviations that lie within (MWAHAHAHA!). The inner nature of being is the only nature of being worth nurturing. And it can only be known through the temple in youse temple. Harv and Vera lie there (but also on the floor of their kitchenette - frequently) twixt the notions of enduring passion and everlasting insight. You've heard of penguins in the pantry and koalas in the cupboard but have you ever heard of gibbons in the ganglia? Course you 'ave! They be the distortions in yon noggin - that nuclear device within the cavernous container at the top. Just take a breath, let go, and let it breathe life into all. Release the gibbon of the spurious and conspicuous adventure! Stand and prepare to be enthralled!! It's ALIVE!!!
