Instructions for patching firmware 3.3.x, 3.4.x, 3.5.x

The dictionary issue mentioned in post no.179. I have the same but I don't have any patch. I have Aura HD on 3.3.0 , UK system - if that matters (I didn't patch it or mess up in any way). I am using the French-French dictionary. Same problem, skips the even pages of the dict when it has several pages and you try to move to next page with a normal swap.
It this can help, this fix works for me: double tap on the dictionary page and now you can swipe the odd-numbered pages. Funny. Of note, the last page of the dictionary is wasted for the copyright information.

Last time I tried it was the opposite for me. Swipe in the center of the screen and pages move one by one. Swipe closer to the edge and they move 2 by 2 (which, when there are only 3 pages, looks like moving backwards).

I've updated post #1 for firmware 3.5.0 (1ad1188b51).

* The long paragraph bug is fixed in this version, so no patch needed.

* The `Search in library by default` and `Preserve PDF pan position across page turns` patches don't work anymore.

Sorry I forgot to update the Windows batch file for 3.5.0. If it doesn't work, try downloading patch_kobo_35.zip again to get the updated 3.5.0.bat.

Geoff; wouldn't it make far more sense to start a whole new thread for 3.5.0? Otherwise why have a thread entitled Instructions for patching firmware 3.3.x applying to 3.5.0 ?

I've updated patch_kobo_35.zip in post #1 to add the `Preserve PDF pan position across page turns` patch.

The code for this function has changed a lot, so maybe panning is done differently in 3.5.0 and this patch is not needed anymore. I've left it disabled by default, perhaps one of you who reads PDFs can say what te situation with PDFs is in 3.5.0.

Hello there! I have some issues with patching my Kobo N905C on OSX. Here is an error message from Terminal:

Extracting files to patch from 3.5.0_source/kobo-update-3.5.0.zip ...
tar: ./KoboRoot/usr/local/Kobo/libadobe.so: Not found in archive
tar: ./KoboRoot/usr/local/Kobo/libnickel.so.1.0.0: Not found in archive
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.
Cleaning up /var/folders/lh/9g0mwnm12lj66sn90g0lgsx00000gn/T/patch32lsb_XXXXXXXX.aL7YtHqd

Well, tar is trying to extract the wrong filename (it should be extracting ./usr/local/Kobo/libadobe.so), but I have no idea how that could happen unless the 3.5.0.sh script has been altered.

The 3.5.0.sh script works fine here as well, and I can't see any obvious way for the script to get the filenames wrong either.

I'd suggest trying again with the original files, and if that doesn't work run the script with "sh -x" to get lots of debugging output. Post all the output somewhere - here or perhaps pastebin.

I think there is a slight ambiguity with the instructions in the first post that has just caught me out, and bricked my Aura HD (I should know better, nothing that a factory reset didn't fix). Re: "These patches work only for these specific firmware versions and no other". To me this implies that any of "these" patches will work with any of "these" listed firmware versions.

I would like to suggest the instructions are changed to:

"1. Make sure your Kobo ereader is already running one of the following firmware versions (upgrade first if necessary), and the firmware version matches the version of the patch you will be applying:
3.3.0 (8eb9c1f8b2)
3.3.1 (38384a81c1)
3.4.1 (d83b1b0e2a)
3.5.0 (1ad1188b51)"

I'm stuck as well. I didn't do any alteration to the kobo-update-3.5.0.zip archive, I put it unziped right into 3.5.0_source folder and I got those errors.

To locate missed files I opened kobo-update-3.5.0.zip and KoboRoot.tgz inside that and missed files were still there in ./KoboRoot/usr/local/Kobo folder.

Any ideas?

Is there any other way to patch libnickel.so.1.0.0 and libadobe.so manually?
