The only way I know is by flashing the earlier image file back to the SD card.

Picked up a used N289 from ebay, got it home and it worked fine until I installed the desktop app and connected and then it did an update to 1.9.1.1 Now it has no books and every time I restart it, it tries to update even with wireless turned off and unit not connected to pc.
This thread is 8 months old and this is still happening. I guess a percentage of people will just go buy a new one and a percentage of those people will get another kobo? Odd way to boost sales.
Anyway. I'm off to go buy a microSD to SD adapter. I did manage to open up the case without a scratch or gouge so the hard part is over.


Could I please have a copy of the disk img?

Hello guys, I had the same issue. my kobo broke after firmware update. I received a N647B image. I have applied it to the SD card. it was successful. I powered up the kobo the blue light comes on and screen stays the same. I have checked to make sure the SD card was pushed in all the way. Still nothing. Any advise or guidance would be greatly appreciated .

Our Kobo Wifi was having the same issues: no books found, and unable to load books even after a factory reset. After contacting Kobo support, we received a replacement Kobo Touch ereader. We had our Wifi for over 3 years and it worked fine until the recent update.

Although I am disappointed that Kobo continues to release this faulty firmware update even after several months of problems, it was nice to get a replacement for a 3 year old device.

Thanks to the contributors to this thread for helping me to identify the problem, and to realize that a replacement device from Kobo was an option.
