You might want to look at the video reviews before you assume that it *will* be slower. From what I've seen and what the reviewers are saying, the page turn is snappier.

Well -- I had pre-ordered an Aura from the Kobo webiste - and today got an email with an invoice hitting my credit card -- so I am assuming they are starting to ship.

I got one yesterday, but I have not gotten the note with tracking info yet. I thought it was just a duplicate of the receipt I was sent when I made the purchase.

I'm with robko on this. I have a Touch and a Mini and have not experienced any of these issues on either device with any of the firmware.

Pre-ordered! I'll have to pay a bit of a premium to get my folks to ship it to Japan but I think that this is the e-reader that I've been waiting for (well since I got my 650 anyways).
Kobo Japan better not release one in a month for only 15,000 yen!

This was a nice surprise from Kobo, but not for me personally, I'll still be waiting to see what Sony comes up with. Kobo has just raised the bar again ever so slightly though, eh?

*sigh* It does indeed track most things about your use of the ereader. It has nothing to do with connecting to Kobo's site. Already been shown in other threads.

And why do you think the data's not associated with individuals? Because Google and Kobo say so?

Folks; please... the double turn is rare, and the freeze (or non responsive screen) is extremely extremely rare.

I know the device tracks and stores information about your use if the device. I have spent a lot of time looking at the database. It is recording things like when you open a book, close of finish a book or how many times you turn the page. If Kobo thinks this will help them somehow, they are welcome to it.

But, I honestly don't remember this being discussed before. Can you point to the threads? I do remember some discussion of what is kept when using the browser, but not when reading a book.

I have no problems with touch screens in general, but I more often than not prefer to turn pages using the buttons rather than the touch screen.
Because then one group would have to pay for the useless gadgets of the other group.
(i.e. touch-fans have to pay for buttons and vice versa)
Also, it'd be far too sensible for our modern world.

The lack of buttons and mandatory use of touch-screens is what prevents me from getting a new reader. The way I hold it when walking (from one subway station to another) would mean I have to constantly turn off/on the device, or risk touching the screen with my sleeves(I hold it so that the screen is on the inside of my arm, to prevent it being hit by other pedestrians).

Aura will sell for $299 in New Zealand: http://booksellers.co.nz/book-news/k...book-retailers

This seems a bit steep to me, 50% more than the US price ($US169 = $NZ199). The Glo sells here for $199.

That seems really high. Probably be cheaper to buy for $169 using a re-shipper (or whatever those services are called) in the US, I wouldn't think their fees would be that high.

eInk Readers have a screen controller to drive the screen. I would think this would be faster to rive the higher resolution.

You're assuming that the CPU speed is the bottleneck in the rendering process. This might not be the case.
