I believe you, so I did another book without the PID.

My K3 PID ends in a profanity, so I'm glad to use just the serial number.

I shall give this tool a try later - obviously, just for academic reasons and having nothing to do with really stripping drm.
Now for similar academic reasons, it would be nice if a plug in for topaz could be developed. (or does this tool work for topaz found on the real k3?) |

Hi!
Tried on two books, one from a K2 Intl. and one from a US bought K3+WiFi+3G. One book (from the K2) three years old, and one (from the K3) just bought (12/2010). Worked like a dream. Decoded in a few seconds. The older book tried 6 PIDs, and the log looked like this: >Trying: xxxxxxxxxxx >MOBI header version = 4, length = 232 The newer one only needed to try 4 PIDs, and looked like this: >MOBI header version = 6, length = 232 >Extra Data Flags = 10 Great work!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi FF2,
No Topaz support yet in that tool but the developers have it on their roadmap (according to a recent DR post). And I think if the Topaz code can be reworked enough, they may even breakdown and provide a plugin for that too (assuming you are patient enough to wait while it runs and can clean things up afterwards). |

It worked on my k3 entering only the serial number ... wait... opening it with kindle4pc to see if readable.
... netbook is slow... OPENED and is readable. You can report back to those Blokes, ahem, bloggers, that it appears to work. Sheesh, what can I do with all of the space that not having 12 gazillion copies of the same book in 25 gazillion formats.... ![]() Oh, any way to preserve the K3's serial number between runs of the script? I have copied it to a text file but it would be convenient to have it entered and retained. Last edited by FF2; 12-21-2010 at 06:15 PM. |

I haven't had time to experiment yet. But just to refresh my memory, is it necessary to remove the old plug-ins before installing the new ones? Or just add the new ones and they install over the old ones? Is there a recommended procedure to update the plug-ins?

You can just install over the old one. Any previous settings will be preserved. Actually, even if you remove the plugin, if the new one has the same internal calibre name (and it does), it will still remember your previous settings.

Oh, is this a PLUG-IN? I thought it was a standalone application. It is not in the format that I've used for Calibre plugins - zip files, etc.

They created a plug-in after the reports of success with the standalone. You can download it from the DR blog. It worked with my K1, K2 and K3.

Hello everyone, thanks for all the helpful posts. The Calibre plug-ins worked for some of my books but not all. It worked for K4PC, and for the ePubs from Sony reader store, Kobo, BoB etc but it didn't work on the ADE PDFs. Also, it didn't work on the B&N books; I was able to convert one book which I think was DRM-free anyway.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong at this point. I dread having to go the 2nd route; the Calibre plug-ins are so much easier. |
