He can hold his head up for a short period of time. He isn't at the sitting stage yet. He is 8 weeks, so tummy time and batting at overhead toys is the order of the day.

Yes, holding his head up is a requirement for being able to stand and push the walker around. My son was unusual, I guess, because he was holding his head up when he was born. I had an emergency C-section and, before I even knew if it was a boy or a girl, the Surgeon and Nurse said, "He's holding his head up!" and "He's looking around!" .."So, it's a boy?" was my comment from behind the screen.

He holds his head up but not long enough to sit on his own. He is actually too big for the baby carrier we have. He does not fit in the infant inset because of his size but still needs neck support which does not exist in the baby carrier. (sigh)
He just downed a five ounce bottle and spent time on the breast. It had been five hours since his last feeding. I just wish I could predict his really long naps. |

I have a bit of a cold. Booooo I checked a web site to find out what meds are safest for breast feeding. One of the homeopathic remedies for a scratchy throat is strong, hot black tea. Being a devoted mother, I have been making Seven Sons Pu-erh from Gong Fu. Tonight I take my normal Alka Seltzer Cold Plus.

But it might do your sore threat a bit of good, if you don't drink it too hot. Coke Zero in my cup. Yes, I've lost count again. I'm typesetting a book (yes, a print book) this evening. |

I know it is not but I can enjoy pretending. It makes my throat feel better. I am on to hot water and honey.

Nothing much will make that cold go away any faster, but anything that diminishes the symptoms without heavy drugs should be a good thing. Hot beverages will help the throat, as will a "steam tent" the nose. And I actually don't see a significant issue with the newer nasal sprays that are steroidal based, since their effect is quite topical and localized.
Looking forward to a better day today. Yesterday was gray here, and kind of made me feel gray. But going to hit the pool this morning for a solid 1.5k. Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice, and some Anniversary Breakfast Blend. |

I am using the nasal spray prescribed by my doctor when I was pregnant and drinking hot water and honey. Lucas slept with me from 7:30-11:00 which was awesome. I am feeding the two of us now. I feel better and am hoping this is a mild cold.

Good, that spray is almost certainly one of the topical steroids, and they will actually help with the symptoms a bit. Meanwhile, I like to add a bit of lemon to that honey mixture -- it seems to help cut through the yuckiness of my throat. Though overall I need to be very careful around colds because I have enough asthma that a cold can become serious. And I always get my flu shot!
On my second pot of Peet's Anniversary Breakfast Blend. ![]() |

Flu shot on Thursday when Lucas gets his first round of vaccinations. I am not looking forward to Thursday. The logical, rational part says it is going to be fine but I know it is going to hurt him and I don't want him to be in pain.
I need to get lemon when I go to the grocery store later today. Rhinocort Aqua is for hay fever but seems to be doing a good job of keeping the nose reasonably dry. I am taking generic Tylenol for the headache. Hopefully it will be enough. |

Yup, a corticosteroid. And yes, it will do as much as can be done to keep the nose from constant stuffiness and dripping without putting a lot of stuff in the rest of your system. (And much safer than the old days when the stuff we had for nasal sprays would cause serious damage to the membranes of your nose.)
Moved on to a pot of Phoenix Mountain Oolong. |

It was insanely expensive because insurance didn't cover it but it was the safest option during the pregnancy so we went with it.
