Thanks Stitch. My cousin and I had an appetizer of baked mussels. They weren't hot and had a funny aftertaste so we only had one each. My cousin is the one I should worry about as she is 63 and in poor health.

Not good. Hope you got through it okay? I rarely eat mussels after nearly choking to death on one. You know how they sometime have stringy bits attached? One got caught in my throat with the stringy bit still in my mouth, and wouldn't go down. Luckily I managed to cough it back up in the end, but it was a near-death experience that I don't want to repeat in a hurry (no lights at the end of the tunnel - what a swiz!).

Un-ranting Mode: On
I managed to get the computer to recognize my new hard drive. It did take re-formatting a drive that said it was already formatted, but what the heck... I found a little application that could recognize peripheral drives and format them without the computer needing to assign a letter first. Very nice. Stitchawl |

Nice poetry, but sorry about the inspiration. Ever think about selling one of your kids? (Or better yet, a neighbor's kid?)

That's when I thought of using an independent app, which worked. And as this was an external drive rather than a system drive, it was the next logical step before going to a UBCD.Now I'd like to figure out why I can't get the USB3 card to work properly in my computer so I can utilize the full speed of this new drive. Haven't been in this thread in a while, but I've got no one here at the house to listen to me rant. Prepare to be bored. Or just skip it. I just need to complain for a few minutes.
Early last year my roommate, the electrical contractor, said, "I need an employee!" I was an IC at the time, working as a consultant for multiple clients. I set up his state unemployment account and all other necessary things, following all the proper procedures because I'm very uptight when it comes to doing things by the book in business matters. Then he decided the time wasn't right yet - recession, unpredictable business, yada yada. Okay, no problem. Sent in "zero wage" reports for the rest of the year. The State then deactivated the account, with a letter saying, "When you do have employees, call this number to reactivate your account so that you can report and pay your premiums." Cool. So, finally in the second quarter of this year, we hire! Including me, and a part time helper for in the field. So last week, I call, a nice lady emails me a re-activation form and also mails me a blank second quarter reporting form so I can pay the premiums. Now, TN has two types of rates. A "new employer rate" for the first 36 months of wage reporting, and thereafter a rate that is calculated based on your account (payments and claims) from those 36 months. I know the rate for our industry for new employers, but the form, not being pre-filled, is wanting the base premium and the add'l fee. Wasn't sure if it applied to us, so I look at last year's premium notice, and see that yes, it's a combined rate of those two. So I call to ask for the current breakdown. I'm informed that new employers don't have a combined rate, it's the flat current NE rate. I say, "um, according to last year's notice, it's a breakdown. I just didn't know how this year's rate breaks down." So she pulls up the account and proceeds to tell me that our account was set up incorrectly from the beginning. It isn't something I did, because my role in the account set up was merely providing requested information. This just makes me nuts. I have all my wage reports, all my payroll records, and I HAVE MONEY I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE THEM. And I can't do that yet because someone did something well over a year ago that was incorrect. So now I have to call another number and try to get it straightened out. Yay. I hate Mondays. |

Update! (Double post because tacking on an edit to a post that long is just wrong.) I just reached the person I was referred to, and was informed that the person I spoke with this morning apparently ate a big ol' bowl of clueless for breakfast. Our account is fine.
And I'm so relieved, I can't even bring myself to rant about that. Just happy I will be in compliance and get the premiums paid on time. Now I'm ordering a garlic bread pizza from Pizza Hut to replenish the carbs I burned from being stressed. (Yes, I know that's bad science and I don't care. )
