I never paid any attention to the names of the actors. But I did download two different versions of Robin of Sherwood. One seemed more 'dark' than the other...

I am soooo glad you aren't here to give them any more ideas! I just know someone would try that and I would see an anvil drop in my yard.

We didn't have any helicopters nor airplanes circling around this year. Neither did I see any sheriff vehicles around. The years before they were all over trying to catch people.

It was quite popular at rural county fairs many years ago. Most people don't have two anvils around their houses or barns any more so the practice is going out of style.

Wha??? You mean to say that you do NOT have an anvil??!?? Even I have an anvil, and I live in an apartment!!

('course, my anvil is not a 'regulation' blacksmith's anvil. It's a 8" section of railroad rail, that works perfectly for a hobbyist's anvil! Most large homecenter/DIY shops sell them these days. Looks like this.)

My anvil is a 3" jeweler's anvil, wonder how far I could get that one to fly?

My favorite was an acetylene cannon; if you take a golf ball sized pipe, put on a cap with a hole drilled in it, and stuff a golf ball half way down it; you can clamp the whole thing in a vice, hold an unlit acetylene torch up to the hole, light the torch and stick it back on the hole. Da buggah’ll shoot dat golf ball ‘bout a half mile (almost a kilometer)!

Last I heard, they weren’t sanctioned by the PGA.

I have an anvil, well the parents have it at their place.

We had spectacular overhead fireworks until about midnight last night.... all illegal, but surprisingly no loud parties, maybe because today is a work day.

It's also amazing what can be done with a sledgehammer.

We also have a piece or railroad rail as an anvil, it was probably bought by my great grandfather. I think we might have a real anvil somewhere in the basements, iirc my grandfather used to have one in the barn at his holiday house and my father took most of his tools with him when the plot was sold.

Traditional Dutch fun with explosive things: carbide shooting. From Wikipedia:
Quote:
In the Netherlands, calcium carbide is still used in a traditional New Year's Eve custom called Carbidschieten (Carbide Shooting). To create an explosion, carbide and water are put in a milk churn with a lid, with ignition usually done with a torch. Some villages in the Netherlands fire multiple milk churns in a row.[14] The custom may be derived from an old pagan religious practice intended to chase off spirits
I think either the lid or a ball is used to close up the milk churn and that shoots off, the milk churn itself doesn't explode.

We used to make carbide cannons with paint cans. You put a pin hole in the bottom of the can, drop in the carbide, spit on it, seal the lid on tight, then hold a match or a lighter to the pin home. A loud boom results. As does a bill for a large amount of cash 40 years later when you get the hearing aids...

I have one like that, only twice as long. My Dad made it, out of a steel I-beam, to use as a sleeve press (for pressing the seam on a sleeve). [ err ... you put the sleeve around the beam and use an iron on it. see? ] It's a bit heavy for the purpose, but it does have sentimental value!

the first thing that came to my mind seeing "anvil" was "advil"

the Goethe Institute in our country is giving out one scholarship to a student studying German in our university. But it's the international studies department who is going to choose the recipient, not our teacher and certainly not Goethe, which is a shame.

I may have just eaten a bad mussel. I suppose the next few hours will tell the tale. It is a shame. I like/d that restaurant.

Ohhh.... sorry to hear it. Usually, as soon as you've swallowed you know... "That was a bad one!" Good luck in the next few hours. Stock up on some magazines and stay close to the loo!

My computer will NOT recognize the new 3Terrabyte external hard drive I bought. It lights up. It spins. It even shows up in the Device Manager as an external hard drive that is working correctly. But it doesn't show up in the Disk Manager at all! I have several other external drives running and they all show up nicely. This one is making me mad. It says it's already formatted and ready for plug-and-play, but it's going to get an "F" from me on its report card for 'Works and Plays Well With Others!'

I'm going to disconnect everything except that one, and see if that makes a difference. If not, I'll have to hunt up an 'external disk formatter' and try that as a last resort!
Hmmmmm.....

I came down this morning, and There are tiny red ants on my new laptop!. I have killed three so far and hoping they have not got inside during the night!

Taking it back to my room tonight. Bloody Northern Territory. I am sick of the filth.
