My brain is in meltdown. It's taken me since July 30, (almost two weeks), but I have my complete Cozy mystery collection entered into calibre. Most with correct metadata and covers; (some I need to go back and add pub. dates). Final tally? 197 authors, 1065 books. Next up: my Urban Fantasy/Paranormal collection. Fortunately, that one's only about half as large.

Java is the front-runner in most smartphone IDEs (Android, WebOS and Blackberry that I know of personally); C++ is a big one for WebOS as well since you can install a compiler. In addition, with Android stealing all the media thunder, Palm appears to have been somewhat more liberal with the freedoms granted to developers.

Looks like WebOS will scale to other things, and something like a WebOS powered tablet is possible. Various comments HP has made indicate they see the same potentials.
HP has gone on record as saying their purchase of Palm shouldn't be correlated with an interest in getting into the smartphone wars; also, the Slate coming off the table (and WinMo7 coming of the Slate) at the same time as the Palm acquisition wasn't coincidence. Then again, HP was already in the smartphone business with the Glisten and iPaq, and is currently looking for a new boss so my money's on CES next year for any real news.

Some people were asking about digital painting so I put together an animated gif of the Tiger Lily steps (WIP - Work in Progress). I find animated gifs very annoying so will not post it here but here is a link to it on my website if you are interested:

http://www.kacweb.com/images/Tigerlilyanimation.gif

It sort of shows the painting process...

Very cool kenny - watching the sequence seems to transform the painting from 2-D to 3-D -- makes the flower pop off the background!

I can't say this any better than the original author:[INDENT] "You'd be amazed how many people...come to Linux, expecting to find essentially a free, open-source version of Windows. Quite often, this is what they've been told to expect by over-zealous Linux users. However, it's a paradoxical hope. It is logically impossible for any thing to be better than any other thing whilst remaining completely identical to it. A perfect copy may be equal, but it can never surpass. So when you gave Linux a try in hopes that it would be better, you were inescapably hoping that it would be different. Too many people ignore this fact, and hold up every difference between the two OSes as a Linux failure."

I've always been a Mac person. Several years ago, my software engineer husband asked me to try Linux. I started out with Linspire, and enjoyed using it, but didn't like the way software would disappear with upgrades. He switched me to SUSE; later I used Debian (now Debian Lenny) on my desktop and Ubuntu on my laptop. I like them both, but truth be told, I have never been able to learn text commands. I can usually figure stuff out with the GUI, but sometimes I need Hubby to bail me out. I'm so spoiled having live-in tech support!
