I would wet the whole thing. Then you won't have to worry about getting it wet.

That's basically what I told her to do, but with the addition of some good leather care products to actually improve the end result.

My leather bags are all mouldy from the past couple of wet years. I have cleaned them all, but the ones I don't use are getting mouldy again (not to mention the shoes). They are all black so water marks don't worry them, even a light solution of bleach, but the mould grew back - possibly on the dubbin I used after cleaning.

Never mind - maybe I should use all my stuff! - We all have too much stuff!

Try this... Wash everything down once again with some sort of soap. Obviously saddle soap is the 'safest' to use on leather, but even bath soap will get the job done. Wash off all the dubbin and the mould. Let it dry, then soak it with ArmorAll. Spray the stuff on so that it drips! Make sure it's the 'Protectant' and not the dashboard cleaner or even the leather seat cleaner. The original formula Protectant is what you want. After you spray it on, let it sit a minute or two, then wipe off the excess, and buff out the leather so it's not slippery. If my leather's could stay mould-free in Thailand's jungle humidity, I'll bet yours can too!

This does work! I have a couple of leather briefcases I only use once or twice a year - and I live in the South where mildew gets in your closets - so I clean yearly with saddle soap & spray with Armor All - then wrap loosely in tissue paper. Working so far.

Here at the edge of the Dismal Swamp mildew gets into your toes if you're not careful!

As I told Sneaky in a msg, there is a tanning process used for some leathers that sometimes causes mineral salts from the tanning to migrate to the surface of the leather if the item is not used regularly. This gives the leather a white powdery, dusty look, that is often mistaken for mould. This stuff cleans off easily, especially with saddle soap or even just ArmorAll, but if the leather is unused for another year, may get a new layer of the salts eventually. I have a black leather coat that I had made for me in Korea 25 years ago that suffers from this. And as it always just sits for 3/4 of the year, I have to go through the process each winter. But afterwards, the coat still looks as good as it did when I first took it home from the leather shop! ArmorAll really does a great job, especially on Chrome Tanned leather!

ArmorAll does NOT work on toes. Try 'Skippy' Extra Chunky peanut butter... the chunks act as a mild abrasive.

Very unhappy and feeling hunted. Today in my in-box there was an invitation to buy half price guns. Now I am wondering how many people saw me abusing that police person by the roadway around Xmas time. Am I being paranoid?

Real cause for pissed-offed-ness is actually my PRS-650 Sony Touch Reader. I don't mind conspiracies, but I don't like being the target of one. I have read so many many grumbles, complaints and vituperative entries about the battery problems that beset the PRS-650 just as it comes out of warranty. I know that we live in a disposable society, but I did expect more from my battery! >>>>FUME<<<<. In addition I paid top price for the thing. I don't use it that often and now it is all but useless. Evidently batteries can be bought if one is prepared to sell oneself to the battery Devil. You can bet that Sony replacement batteries do not exist in Australia. Does anyone have any ideas?

Oooops. Sorry folks I didn't read the part where it said that this board was about not grumbling about ebooks and readers. Sorry. But I would welcome comments anyway.

Batteries for your reader cost about $20 USD, can be bought over the Internet and sent to you, and take about 10 minutes with a small screw driver to change. Although the printed instructions that usually come with the batteries are excellent, there are a dozen YouTube videos that will take you through it step by step.

Don't let a consumable's consumption get you down.
