It's a new regime, and I think they're trying to prove their worth. Also, I have a feeling that whoever's in charge is pushing this kind of overly aggressive policing. Stupid tends to run downhill, so when you begin to see an entire group acting like clowns, odds are good that there's an idiot at the top orchestrating the circus.

Idiots at the top can be taken down. Enough complaints about folks getting busted (or even harassed) for talking on a cell phone that’s in the trunk will get the attention of shipyard Commander.

I didn't know it was against the law to use a cell phone while driving in Virginia.
It's been illegal here for years.

It isn't illegal in Virginia as far as I know. If it is, there are certainly a lot of people breaking the law. This took place on a military base, however, so different rules apply.

Virginia does not have a handsfree law that I know of. Maryland and DC do. Common sense should tell you not to use the silly things in the car but we know how well that works.

Why do mobile phone companies make it so hard to find out what you pay for the full length of your mobile phone plan. With the cost of the mobile phone, the plan and the discounts you get for 6/9/12 months and other costs if you switch carriers.

Until today I thought it would be cheapest to lease the phone for the duration but after taking everything into account that is one of the most expensive plans. At the moment it looks like my cheapest option is to stay with the same carrier but switch to a business. My father already offered the option that I could get a plan on our store's name, he and my mother have the same plan I want. Tomorrow I have to call if it is possible to make that switch and make sure that the money is taken from my bank account and not from the bank account of my parents.

Just when I thought I could not hate my job more than I already do...Okay, every summer, we close at 7:30 instead of 9, as we do during fall and spring semesters. This only affects me, as I am the only full-time employee that stays here after 4. If I am lucky (or unlucky as the case may be), I get a student worker or 2 in the evenings.


Anyway, I look forward to the 7:30 closing all year. I still work 40 hours but I get home a little earlier and there is less time when I am responsible for everything by myself. These hours were supposed to start today. FRIDAY my boss tells me that I should expect to work until 9 on Mon. because he needs to talk to the new vice-chancellor about it or something. That's right. I find out on Fri. my Mon. hours aren't going to be what I thought.

Not only that, I come in today, greet my boss, and he says nothing about this whatsoever. He also didn't discuss it with the other 2 full-time librrary employees. I feel pretty disrespected. I would at least have liked to hear, "I'm sorry, the new VCA said we have to stay open until 9." In THIS fiscal climate when we should be looking at cutting hours back to save on electricity and things like that.

In my case the last minute notifications are .. well... part of the challenge.

One of the volunteer roles I do is a driver for a program called "Home At Last" that serves to bring elderly / infirm / handicapped people home from hospital stays.

My main day for this role are mondays, but the calls can come other days too.

When I get a call its:

1. Put wheelchair in car
2. Drive to location vehicles are stored
3. If office is open hope I can get a mini-van
4. If office is closed take the wheel-chair accessible small bus (I have a key for it)
5. Drive to pick up co-worker (Personal care worker)
6. Drive to second office to get the bag with instructions
7. Drive to whichever hospital we need
8. Wait for care worker to get patient
9. If needs be, drive to pharmacy for presciptions
10. Drive patient home
11. Wait for care worker to do whatever is needed at their home
12. Drive care worker home
13. Return vehicle
14. At some point return paper work for run we have done

It used to be that the vehicles were at the same location as the bag with instructions; that has changed now

It wasn't smart for me to figure out the costs of mobile phone plans and battle with Audiograbber because it started to rip cd's at, what sounded like, a very low bitrate eventhough it was set to 320kbps. That was not good for my mood tonight!

The leasing of phones is new and you would think it would be cheaper, but it's more expensive. Depending on the carrier you pay between €336 and €576 for two years. With the business plan I pay €140 up front (other carriers it's €179.95) and the phone and internet plans are either the same or even cheaper than when leasing. The business plan is around €650 over two years (including the phone) and the most expensive is €1440!

We call those four oclock crises. They apply mostly to salaried employees.
