Ugh. I've developed a rash from the medication I've been taking.

So. Much. Rage. It doesn't help that I was having a bad day already with making an ass of myself by having a repair guy come out for the window when it turns out the window wasn't broken (I thought for sure I had gotten the window all the way up and it still wasn't locking but, yeah, I had to push it up just a little more. I also spilled diet coke all over my car.

So, anyway, I get to work and here is where the rage comes in. The head of circulation has scheduled on of our council on aging workers earlier (8 to noon rather than noon to 4) because the other one left. There is already a student worker who comes in at 9:30 but I have no one working with me after 4. This is a common thing. If I am lucky, I get a student worker later in the semester. I am the only evening librarian. The only other librarian is my boss, the director, and he leaves by 3:30. I'm actually the HOC's boss but I have a hard time being a boss with the two paraprofessionals because they are older and more experienced than me and my boss would never back me up. What makes me so angry is that the "head of circulation" never works at the circulation desk. I am stuck out there for most if not all of my shift. *deep breathes* *counts to 10*

I have just decided to leave mobileread. I hadn't been on much, haven't really had that much to contribute so it's hardly a loss for the forum (hence posting this farewell here rather than a new thread, which would presume people would be interested in what I have to say!) but before I sign off for the last time I just wanted to say that every time I come here I get wound up by the anti-paper blather that I see in many threads. If people like ebooks that's fine, they are enjoyable devices to read on, but I have found that owning an e-reader to read classics and free books on has actually enhanced my appreciation of and reverence towards physical books and so the kind of arrogance I quite often see here and the dissing that paper gets just turns my stomach. Whether it's intended as humour or not, I find it offensive coming from what could be thought of as well-read and erudite people and so have decided it's better that I not visit the site any more. Maybe I'll use the time I spent browsing here to read books instead.

Bye all,

Paul

i would have bet my bottom dollar that laurel&hardy films would be public domain and spread all over sites like youtube. but i guess not. sorry, i'm not paying $3 a pop to stream 90 year old videos when the actors are looooong dead.

For several years I have been using an Acer H340 Windows Home Server box for backups, and for storing media.

Tonight we had a power failure, and I orderly shut it (and other PCs down; all being on UPSes).

Came back a few hours later and the darned thing won't power on! The switch lights up to show it has power but the backup server won't turn on!

How annoying!

Did you try swearing at it. All the women at work swear at their computers and think I'm quite abnormal because I don't.

The operative (or non-operative) word here = Acer!

I got stopped again for talking on my cell phone by this new batch of Keystone Cops the shipyard recently hired. This time there was no argument: my cell-phone was in the trunk.

Jeeze, if they stop everyone who scratches their ear for talking on a cellphone, God help whoever they see pointing at something with their finger. They might shoot first, then wonder how the suspect managed to get rid of the gun so quickly.

I liked the old group of cops we had. They weren't bonkers like these new lads.

Bye all,

Paul

Thank you for taking the time to explain your reason for deciding to move away from our discussions. I'm sorry you do feel the need to distance yourself from our forum. Yes, we are passionate about ereaders, but a lot of us do continue to read pbooks and even have multiple shelves of pbooks in our homes. Digital versions of books are more convenient for a lot of lifestyles today, but doesn't mean that many of us have abandoned pbooks. I have many early editions of books that are cherished additions to my library and still have over a thousand books on my shelves. We are an international forum which means that we have many opinions about everything - paper vs. digital included.

Hummm.. Maybe, you should make sure that your cell phone is always in the trunk while you are in the shipyard.

Oh! Good Thinking! Don't point your finger! I like you and would miss you around here.

I can honestly say that I haven't noticed that- not calling you a liar, just haven't personally noticed it. I think it is a shame that you are leaving because of that, but I guess we all have our own breaking point.
