Wow, when checking out the Dash Wand I saw the Amazon fresh produce ad and was amazed they charge a $14.99/month membership! Heck for that much money I will just get up off of my fat, lazy, and old butt and waddle down to the grocery store. I cannot help but wonder if in the future we will get so lazy from ordering from online stores that we wind up like the residents of that spaceship in Wall-E--so out of shape we cannot even walk anymore.

Speaking of Amazon and groceries, I just read that Amazon is buying Whole Foods Market for $13.7 billion. I lived about a mile from the original Whole Foods Market in Austin, and their HQ too. I remember going to it one time because it was all the rage. It seemed like a colossal waste of money to me. Everything was priced 2 or 3 times more than at a normal grocery store, and apparently that was all because they claimed everything was organically grown. Good marketing, but their food tasted just like any other grocery store food, and there was no way to verify if that chicken was free ranged or raised in a disgusting feedlot. Either way folks, the chicken was raised in captivity and slaughtered at an early age, way before life expectancy, and sold to consumers and restaurants and pet food manufacturers. No doubt it tastes the same when cooked regardless of how it was raised. So to me it was just a lot of marketing BS. People finally got tired of Whole Foods Market though as they have been losing money for years.

Amazon Echo & Echo Dot will soon use a yellow light to indicate unheard messages

When Amazon introduced their new calling and messaging features for Alexa devices, they selected a pulsing green light as the indicator of an unheard message waiting to be played. The issue with that is it’s very similar to the spinning green light that indicates a call is coming in, so it’s very easy to mistake one for the other.

Amazon will soon be resolving this by replacing the pulsing green message indicator light with a solid yellow light. Yellow is not used for any other Echo and Echo Dot light ring functionality, so it should be obvious that a new message is waiting, that is, now that you know what it means. If you see a yellow light ring, just say “Alexa, play my message” to hear the message. Amazon says this change will go into effect “in the coming weeks.”

Just got my Dash Wand set up. Timers are not supported. I think that anything requiring continuous activity - timers, music, other streaming - won't work on the Dash Wand.

That makes sense as the battery would drain fairly quickly if WiFi remained constantly active. Does it have replaceable batteries? If so what kind? Or does it have a built-in rechargeable battery? Also, if you have one, can you test it out on a smart home device to see if that is supported?

ETA: Looks like it uses two AAA batteries. So yep, running WiFi continuously would zap the charge in a hurry, so I can see why they chose not to support any activity that requires continuous WiFi.

It does work for smart home devices. I used it to control my Hue lights.

Nifty device but I'm not sure I'll use it much. But hey, it's basically free and also has the Fresh trial.

My Dot has gone nuts this evening. She woke up three times for no apparent reason. Once she told a joke, again no apparent reason why, but it was funny:

"How do you wake up Lady Gaga? Poker face!"

Then she started reading without being asked to. I have no clue what she was reading. I yelled at her to stop.

Mine has been going off randomly the last couple days also. Was there a recent updating making her more sensitive or something?

I don't know, but she has been going off and also messing up commands a lot. Must have been an update. Maybe she is jealous of all the attention the Dash Wand has been getting.
