When Sunny gets blue, her eyes get gray and cloudyThen the rain begins to fall Pitter-patter, pitter-patter, love is gone so what can matter? No sweet lovin' man comes to call When Sunny gets blue, she breathes a sigh of sadness Like the wind that stirs the trees Wind that sets the leaves to swayin' Like some violins are playin' Weird and haunting melodies ![]() ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2bXA...eature=related ) Good morning, everyone! The start of a new week, a new adventure, another new experience, and best of all, new things to learn! First, we need a solid foundation to build upon, so it's Taylors of Harrogate's "Yorkshire" tea, muesli with yogurt and fruit, and a glass of peach juice! I just paid less than $300 for a 3-terabyte external drive. In 1984 I paid $350 for (the largest size available then) hard drive... 20-M... and that was more than big enough for all my programs and file storage. Today I have more than 9 terabytes of storage and wonder if I should pick up more... Back-ups... Lots of Back-ups... I will not lose any more information... Lots of back-ups... |

On my first visit to Kuala Lumpur, (I think it was around '91) I discovered a small store in a shopping mall that was selling pirated software. One of the earliest shops for that sort of thing. The walls were covered with hundreds of software titles... You'd pick the titles you wanted, and the shop keeper would then copy the program onto as many diskettes as needed while you waited. By early 2000, you could find entire shopping malls in Bankgok filled ONLY with stores that were selling pirated CD's, each with hundreds of small programs on them, or single program CDs. When you picked what you wanted, the shop keeper would run out the back of the shop to a parked car, take the CD's from the trunk (in case the police raided his store) and come back. Then he'd look up the CD's label and print that out on his printer, slip it into a jewel case, and put the CD inside. These days, it's hardware as well as software. Fake Sony Walkmen, fake DVD movie players, even pirated hard drives, pirated keyboards, pirated CPUs...
One place was selling hard drives that were actually memory sticks inside hard drive cases, with their bios set to read as large drives!!! In 2005 I tried to find a legitimate copy of WindowsXP in Bangkok. I could not find a single shop that sold it. Stitchawl Last edited by Stitchawl; 07-08-2012 at 10:50 PM. |

Filtered water and fresh cherries.
And thinking about doing a backup of my system - it's like a little voice is nagging me to do it, and you know what happens if you don't listen to your inner voices... |

I've written an entire book on backup, and virtually every backup chapter in every book we've written. But do I properly backup and test my backups? yeah, exactly. But the next couple of days, I'm going to reconfigure and consolidate, which will help.
Fresh squeezed orange juice. And just brewing a pot of Peet's Anniversary Breakfast Blend tea. |

Thankfully I do not have to worry about backups. I have Time Machine one my mac that is just awesome, and for my windows boxes I use SkyDrive and DropBox to automagicaly handle them. My servers have an rsync job that keeps a weeks worth of backups.... so basically yeah... all my backups are automagic, else they would not get done. And I have had to use them more then once...
Coffee of course. |
