Your cats don't like salmon? Our cat likes what we eat. Except vegetables (some of our friends are like that too). He even like red kidney beans (and therefore bean dip) and sultanas.

They begged for it, but I guess the presentation wasn't up to thier standards, every one of them sniffed, took a (small) taste, then walked away; to the delight of the poodle!

Cats can be strange. Felicity will almost climb up my leg when I'm cutting sashimi for dinner, but then if I put some in her 'treat bowl' will ignore it. Other times she will devour as much as I give her and then demand more. She won't even sniff at the fake crab, and that's pure pollack! On the other hand, I don't find it all that tasty either...

Christian never begs for our food, but he does have an annoying habit of wanting to sit in my lap when I'm eating. He has been known to jump up on the kitchen counter and help himself to what's in the pot, however, causing my wife to throw out more than one entire dinner.

I need to vent

Our apartment building was recently bought by another company. I have a lease that expires in December and found out that these new people want anyone over 30 with kids out of the building. They want it to become more high-end and less family oriented. And of course they want to be able to charge a heck of a lot more for rent than what we pay now as pretty much low income families.

Yesterday I came home to find a notice in my mailbox from the owners demanding that we all pay them $250 for every air conditioner in our apartments and that we can't have an air conditioner over 8000BTUs.

Now, I live on the top floor right beside the boiler room and let me tell you, it's freakin hot in my apartment. My air conditioner is 10,000BTU and it barely makes a dent. I still need another 2 units before the real hot weather hits. I have 2 kids and a huge 3 bedroom apartment, which costs me every cent I have to keep.

I could not believe the audacity of these people DEMANDING that we pay them $250 per unit. They even put in bold letter on the notice that : THIS IS MANDATORY. Yeah, whatever. I called the Landlord and Tenant Board of Ontario and was told by the customer service rep that neither I or any other tenant that has been there since before the sale of building have to pay ANYTHING to these people if we never agreed to it upon signing our lease. I've personally been living in the building for 6 years this June. And have had an air conditioner in my window every single year.

So I did what any decent person would do and I made my own damn notice telling all the tenants in the building that they don't have to pay these idiots a dime if they already have a lease from the old owners, even if it's expired. I added the phone number for the Landlord and Tenant board so they can confirm and I really hope the tenants don't let these jerks run all over them. I'm going to put my notice in everyones mailbox and hope I'm not too late and that nobody has already gone to pay them this ridiculous fee. They DEMANDED that it be made by May 15th. A lot of the tenants don't speak english very well and may not know how to fight back.

It might be a good idea to consult a lawyer, but watch out for those who demand fees whether or not they take a case.

What a bunch of jerks these new owners are! If I'm mistaken in my beliefs concerning religion, and those who believe are right, they're going to wish they had air conditioners where they're going.

I went to help a friend set up her Kobo this morning. (Skip to tl:dr for the vent/rant part only )

Background:
She is 73 and has little experience of using a pc. She bought the Kobo in December and said she was "happy reading the 100 free classics" - but she didn't know how to connect it to her PC/was scared to try. She had even bought a mains charger so she wouldn't have to use the pc to charge the reader!

Soooo, I registered her with a Kobo account (but first of all, I had to set her up with an email account), registered her credit card, set up the desktop Kobo application, registered and set up ADE (she needs this to access our local library's ebooks) and then I was ready to show her how to use it all...

...and discovered I had to start with "this is how to do a double mouse click"

After 3 hours she can use her email account, connect/disconnect the e-reader safely and buy/download books from the Kobo store. I shall go back in a few days and show her how to access the our local library's ebooks - I didn't want to do too much all at once.

Meantime, she has the biggest smile on her face that I have seen for months (she is on anti-depressants and has very low self-esteem thanks to her husband) and is very proud of her achievements this morning.

Directed towards her husband who has spent years telling her she is too stupid to use a computer and that if she touches it she is bound to cause some awful catastrophe and wipe out the internets all over the globe!!!
This is a man who cannot (will not) heat soup or make himself a sandwich when his wife is ill - she HAS to get out of bed to cater for him.

I totally agree.

They had an "Open House" in one of the apartments over the weekend. The apartment was renovated to look like an expensive million dollar condo. If those poor people think for a second that the rest of the apartments look like that they're in for real shock.

I can barely get my screen door to open or closed without pulling it out of the tracks. All my windows rattle. We have a pretty serious pharaoh ant problem. Not to mention the kids that have been carving swastikas onto the walls of the elevators. Yeah, good luck trying to get the filthy rich to live in those conditions .

I'm going to have to be really careful with these people until my lease is up. I know I'll have to move come Jan 1st.

I hate when I see women being treated like that. My MIL was physically abused for over 10 years by my husbands father. Mental abuse can be just as bad.

I'm the type that won't put up with that crap and would say something to him myself...describing in great detail what could happen to him if he continued his behaviour. I know not everyone is as forward as I am, and it can be very, very difficult to see that happening and not be able to do anything about it. At the end of the day though, it's her choice to stay with him.

I'd love to say something but she sees his behaviour as normal for a married man of his age - but it's ok for younger generations to have different expectations!
These people are roughly the same age as my parents but I grew up seeing both parents cooking, cleaning, gardening etc. No way was my father expecting to be waited on hand and foot!

I agree - it's awful seeing someone in a relationship like that and not being able to intervene, much as you want to. Of course, bullies like that always manage to find someone who will be compliant and think they deserve to be bullied.

Someone we know was in a marriage like that but with her family's help, managed to get herself and two young children away from him. She had a lot of counselling and has now turned herself right round, to the extent of being happily remarried and with a new baby. So it can turn out well but it takes a huge amount of courage and support.

Sadly, where a victim manages to get away, the bully just goes out and finds a new person to mistreat. Presumably such a person has pretty low self-esteem him/herself and so needs someone to treat badly.

Great work, Witty - you definitely struck a blow against the putdowns and showed her she can do things. Now if only she realises that if he was wrong about one thing, he could well be wrong about other things he says about her ...

I do hope so.

Due to my increasing hatred toward pretty much any member of the human race that is in front of me at a traffic light, I should most likely completely keep my mouth shut in this thread. There is quite simply not enough memory on their server for me to fully state how people should read up on that whole "green light" thing instead of choosing to stare at it for 15 seconds trying to determine if it is the proper shade of green to proceed forward on. Ooops, I almost got started....

No, you shouldn't. Let it out. People driving cars cease to be human. At least, they forget what humanity is all about. It is NOT about forgetting there are others on the road. It is NOT about not letting vehicles from the side enter traffic. It is NOT about speeding up to prevent another vehicle from passing. Just because someone owns a big car, it does NOT mean they own the road.

I want to mount a laser canon on my handlebars...
