you're not really supposed to edit settings.reader.lua - it's where Koreader stores persistent settings for itself.
That said, it's well possible that it isn't used anymore. The entry in the file won't go if a setting in there gets deprecated. At least that is how it is now - room for improvement there. |

Maybe I should explain why I am asking. I am currently changing the frontlight handling in KSM a little. Up to now it worked as follows:
nickel: If FrontLightState is set to false in Kobo eReader.conf, the screen is lighted with the same intensity that was used by KSM. But since nickel does not know that the light is on, there can occur some problems. If FrontLightState is set to on, nickel uses its own value for the light (FrontLightLevel), and handles it correctly. With Vlasovsoft's launcher it is similar. I do however not know whether there occur problems. In difference to nickel, it switches off the light at exit. I have now changed (but not yet published) my scripts so that KSM switches off the light before starting nickel or Vlasovsoft's launcher, so that the intensity of the light for those applications depends solely on the values set in the respective configuration files. And I restore the previous state of the light when returning to KSM. For Koreader I am considering to do the same, but since the value of frontlight_intensity in the configuration file seems not to be used, it would start with the light always switched off. So maybe, in the case of Koreader, I should let things just be as they are now. (Edit: I was wrong, one can set KOBO_LIGHT_ON_START in defaults.lua) Last edited by tshering; 01-19-2015 at 03:03 PM. |

Koreader on H2O for technical Pdfs
Hi,
I just installed StartMenu and Koreader on an H2O. The installation was easy. I want to read technical/academic Pdfs. For this, the built-in Kobo reader has very poor file/search capabilities (for my workstyle). It also displays math greek letters with an offset sometimes, which is a minor aesthetic issue. On the other hand, the built-in reader actually has very workable controls for reading dense pdfs. Double-tap to zoom in to a column, and then 1-finger scrolling on the edges slides the window to different parts of the text. (The text is readable on the H2O zoomed out, but just barely) I've heard that Koreader is the solution. Koreader gives access to the file system, and displays maths correctly. Problems: 1. It seems that there is no way to zoom in to a 2-column pdf? There are fit-to-width, fit-to-content options, which display the whole page, but I can't find anything else, so the maximum zoom is about 120% rather than 200% or more? 2. Minor, it displays something (a navigation bar?) right at the bottom of the page, that appears to be partially covered by the bezel. Since it is small and possibly partially covered, I'm not sure what it is or how to use it. I'm hoping that there are some options or gestures that I haven't tried. |

Hello
I love Koreader but missing a feature well rather a convenience feature. Is it possible to adjust the front light and the font sizes via dragging (like vertical or horizontal drags)? |

Front light: yes. I think it's s two-finger slide up/down.
Font sizes: no. And frankly, I like it better this way. Doesn't everybody settle with one preferred size in the end? I don't see much need to clobber the gestures with ones that don't really get used often. |

Changing the size of the font can change how many words/lines fit on a page, so to display the change the book/document must reflow the current pages and recalculate the pages of the book, the pages remaining in the current chapter, and what the current page number should be. So a response to such a slider would be awkward, and not any faster than selecting from the font sizes displayed in the bottom menu. Luck; Ken |

@loviedovie: What happens if you try the finger swipe for brightness in Nickel (the standard Kobo reader s/w).

Double finger swiping does not seem to work under Nickel. This is a relatively new Kobo I doubt that it is a hardware problem since the touch and the light works. |

Glo is supposed to work with a single finger swipe on the left side.
Aura works with a double finger swipe in the middle. |

Do you mean Nickel or Koreader? I am using the scrolling for pdfs for maybe that is the issue. However swiping does not do anything on my Aura HD either. |

For my Aura (not HD) the swiping works in both Nickel and Koreader.
(I don't have Koreader on my Glo at this time. I do not have any PDFs on my devices. |
