I'm glad you didn't have to deal with the big storm and I love the Edmund Fitzgerald song! Classic blast from the past.

The weather is going to suck this week. 90-100 and humid. We have reserved spots at work that are never used. I am using them this week. My normal spot is about 1/4 of a mile away and I am not walking that far in that heat at 38 weeks.

Johns Hopkins Arthritis Health Alert reports data that drinking four cups of coffee daily lowers risk of Gout. But isn't Goute the disease of the Bourgeoise? Too much living the high life these days, Orlok?

(I can't even begin tell you what I had to do to figure out how to spell bourgeoise....)

Time for an afternoon cup of Ceylon Uva. It really is so much better than the Ceylon Dimbulla...

It's surprising what can supposedly cause or trigger Gout, including:

sugar-free diet drinks (pdurrant, look out...)
herring
sardines
mussels
low vitamin C
aspirin
diuretics

...but it is most likley alcohol related. So I'm off the booze, perhaps permanently . I wish I could blame it on the high life, but mundanely it is probably just those few bottles of red wine a week that have done it for me.

Cherry juice in my cup. Good for Gout!

Well, by my way of thinking, a few bottles of wine a week is rather a lot... But that's me, who only drinks one glass a night, and if it's tequila or rum that amounts to about a shot or so. The Bombay Sapphire is a bit more, but not much. I like the tastes but I don't like the 'feeling' that alcohol gives.

Regardless, I hope that cutting out the wine works for you. Gout usually isn't usually one of the recommended activities or suggested happenings at resorts, so get rid of it quickly!

There are lots of solutions for keeping chickens in your backyard that simplify the process and allow them reasonable amounts of room to range, without having them all over the neighbourhood. A good resource is BackyardChickens.com. Our girls do occasionally wander out of the yard, but never far and always come back at night to roost in their coop, the "Taj MaHen" I built.

The difference in fresh eggs is, as you say, remarkable. And besides, they're such a pleasure to have around. (Well, mostly!) No rooster, of course. And no plucking since these are purely layers.

A large glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. To go with two of those eggs, over easy, and a couple of rashers of home cured bacon.

Thanks for the link. I have thought a lot about doing this, but neighbors all around me have dogs and cats (the cats come into my yard to drink or lay by the pond). I would have to clip wings and pretty much keep them enclosed to keep them safe. By the time I did the complete set up it would take me years to recoup expenses - just for the few fresh eggs I wanted each week. I decided it was easier and cheaper to get fresh eggs from my boss and friend.

While typing this I had a great idea. I could talk one of my brothers into having chickens. One lives in the middle of their almond orchards (they have fruit trees and vegetables close to the house) and the other has cattle. Hummm... I'll have to start talking to them.

Morning coffee and biscotti.
