It'll be 106 degress here by 6 PM, and one of my A/C units died 2 Sundays ago.
There are currently two strangers here installing a new one.
The coil condenser is dead
the furnace is dead
one of the outdoor units is dead
the pipes need to be flushed b/c the condenser is dead.
the emergency water return lines need to be replaced because the condenser died.
this is costing me a small fortune. I could be in Hawai'i for two weeks for what this cost.
How's it going with you?

This sounds fishy to me. Can't they just pour bleach down them and make sure they are clear. What justifies replacing them?

I know A/Cs are not cheap... but you hope to get 10-15 years out of a new unit... and it might save you a bit of electricity cost depending on how old the one being replaced is... given the newer ones are much more energy efficient.

(That reminds me, got to call and schedule our annual A/C service.)

no, the lines overfilled and that lead to build up and possible crack/damage. The integrity is gone. Our house is 12 yrs old, so the central air system is also as old. The original efficiency rating is a Seer 8, which is now being replaced by a Seer 16.5 which means our energy bill should be about half that now. We'll see, but that depends if we stay in our current home for another 10 yrs to realize a savings.

Thanks! they are supposed to be done within one day. For the last week we've been camped out downstairs. I miss my bed.

I've had 4 contractors in who've given me similar rundowns, once while hubby was at home. I do know a little about home improvement, Dad has a couple townhomes that he leases. I used to go help him do odd ends and jobs on them. Of course I called Daddy when my a/c went down

We decided to go with the middle of the road contractor, too expensive is a rip off, too cheap is too good to be true.

I don't sweat, I glow (see username).
