Which is why I'm not doing so.

Though I have one possible workaround I could explore, since my Aunt and Uncle live in Carson City. But when I looked at the Carson City online library, it was pretty slim. Not worth the effort to get a card for it.

This is getting to be almost normal, Audible is having another BOGO sale. Isn't this the 3rd this month?

Audible must be really anxious to avoid having members stockpile their credits, but I wonder why?

It does seem that way. I get bombarded with emails to spend mine every day and now more bogo sales.

The why seems fairly obvious. If you're sitting on credits, you're likely not spending additional cash. That limits cash flow.
There's also the possibility, if one insists on looking for ulterior motives, that they will be changing their system again, and they want to reduce the amount of grandfathered credits in the wild....

As to the first, it seems a more direct way of increasing cash flow is to offer more bargain prices on select lists of books, more Whispersync for Voice pairings, etc. I'd wager that the Whispersync bargains are big reason that people have credits piling up--they are spending cash instead of using the credits.

Isn't there a six-credit max for monthy memberships anyway? People can't stockpile too many.

It's not a matter of looking for ulterior motives, but these BOGO deals are coming up fast and furious all of a sudden. I'm curious, that's all.

Seems normal to me. In late February last year Audible ran a series of BOGO sales, this year the BOGO sales started in March instead. I believe they sign up a lot of new members at the start of the year (new devices and gift memberships from Christmas), so they tend to concentrate a lot of sales in the first half of the year to entice people to buy audiobooks and credits. I've gotten two "Surprise" sales offers this month alone, I hadn't seen one of those for a year.

I don't think the BOGO sales are to get people to burn credits per se as much as they are to give people justification for maintaining their paid memberships. The Whispersync prices are so good and so prolific, especially with the US option of borrowing the Kindle edition from Overdrive to qualify, that $14.95 per audiobook seems overpriced. I bet a lot of people are terminating their paid subscriptions as a result.

That's certainly possible, too. One would like to think the main reason for any sale is to give value to your customers, encouraging them to remain customers.

Sometimes. Not every book you might want has a special price.
When there is a deal, sometimes the combined price of the ebook and audiobook is no better than the audiobook alone, and this has little interest to some one who only wants the audio book.
I'd imagine if they thought the Whispersync deals were cutting in to their membership profits, they'd modify the deals, rather than give more away.
I love Amazon and appreciate all the deals, but I acknowledge they have a business to run.

Agreed; Whispersync is the better deal by far. The problem I have with BOGO is the selection. They never offer anything I'm interested in. If they opened up their entire catalog, then I'd be interested.

Ah, this makes a lot of sense.

On the other hand, you might hold on to a membership BECAUSE you have credits piled up, and since BOGO entices you use them, it could have an unintended consequence.

Oh, absolutely. I've started borrowing Kindle books from my library just because I can then get the audiobook for three or four bucks. And even after the loan expires, the special pricing remains.
