Woof woof, scratch at the door, sounds the same whether it's daylight saving or not. But ya' gatta go with the flow. Then try and get that extra hour's sleep from somewhere.

Cooper wakes up when the sun starts coming into the bedroom. Caya got up at 8 AM, which used to be 7 AM, so no rel change there. We sent them back to their beds for 30 minutes more of sleep. So it was the combination of a grey morning and time change. Heck, I had to wake myself up at 7:30 today because the dogs were still zonked out.

I love a good vent, and by golly (she said politely) there are some goodies in this thread!! Yes, I read most of them. Don't you hate people who can't wait for you to stop talking so they can one-up you ... not having a clue what you were saying while they were "listening"?

I'm beginning to believe that it's possible to die from hay fever... I've already set the new Guinness Record for number of boxes of tissues used up per hour. My antihistamines may as well be M&Ms for all the good they are doing...

I don't like not being able to take my traditional cold medicines. The ones that work really well and let me get a good nights sleep. The ones that I only need to take twice a day to feel human. I miss my Alka Seltzer Cold Plus and the wonderfully long time it makes me feel normal so that I can sleep and go to work.

Stupid pregnancy approved cold medicines that don't cross the placenta and leave me waking up every four hours....

(grumps off to have some more Rooibos tea in hopes of making her throat feel better because god knows the approved meds do crap)

Damn this daylight savings time! So I go to bed at 11:00 pm (which a week ago used to be 10:00 pm). My kitten's internal clock is still on EST .... so at midnight (my time) she begins knocking everything off the headboard - waking me out of my REM sleep - to play with her (only 11 pm her time). After slowing my heart rate from 200, and re-orienting myself and finding the light and realizing no one is breaking into the house, I look down on the floor .... It's a good thing kittens are cute ... Stella was lying on her back, wiggling her toes at me ... inviting me to play.
Sigh .... couldn't really yell at her ....

Took me forever to get back to sleep. I'll probably be found slumped over my desk this afternoon.

Sigh ...

. . . . anyway, like I was saying. The other day I was reading this thread. Well, out of nowhere, this newbie starts carrying on about somethin'. For the life of me, I can't remember what it was. . . . .

Dear Amazon,

Thank you for the kind e-mail spam this morning about A Visit from the Goon Squad. I noticed when I clicked on it that you've cranked the Kindle price from about $7.00 to $11.50 now. I probably won't be clicking on the buy now button, but thanks for keeping me informed of price increases. Flyers used to tell about things that were on sale.

Kindest regards,

random Kindle owner

Most Southern Africans eat the equivalent of grits which is the black folks' staple diet of stiff maize meal (mealie meal over there) porridge. You eat it with your hands and slurp it into whatever you're eating with it - usually stew, or fried onions if at a barbecue. In Zimbabwe it's called sadza, in South Africa white folks call it "pap" (Afrikaans for porridge) and I THINK the Zulu word is "putu". Whatever, we migrants still eat it regularly here in Australia and my Aussie children and grandchildren all love it! Luckily some smart people (South African migrants, no doubt) sell coarse maize meal in OZ online, because you can only get polenta in the shops, and that's tasteless and overprocessed. Of course you can always cook the maize meal as actual porridge and eat it with sugar and cream for brekkie. YUM!!!

P.S. In Angola, where I lived for many years, the staple diet for the black Africans is slimy porridge made from manioc(a) flour rather than maize meal - I have to tell you that is the most digusting experience - think swallowing phlegm. Yeah, it is that gross.

Fascinating! You sent me on a Google quest for more about sadza and how it compares to grits. I even found a comment that it is sometimes prepared with peanut butter. May have to try that with grits!
