Hi Kartu
I flash your firmware, it's very useful, Can you add the option to turn page by taping to screen (not swipe), because I use Prs350 when I hold one hand it's a lot easier to turn page just by taping on the screen

thank you

Hi Kartu,
With the Sony PRS-950,
disabling the SD card scan from the PRS+ menu, does not work (while it works with the 650). The sd card scan is made anyway.

Probably. Haven't had time to look into touchscreen functions yet.

I've tested it on mine. It works but is "tricky" since it loads all stuff from the cache file in Sony Reader folder on the card.

The cache file (result of card scanning) is created by:
1) The reader itself, if scanning was enabled
2) Sony Reader Library
3) Calibre

Hello all. I've been experiencing with font replacements in .epubs lately and I have found this problem:

-Turning pages is slower than reading the same book using the standard format (for example .lrf). Is not a huge difference but when I use an specific font in a epub to turn pages is not as fast as before. I have tried several books using my own fonts and I'm experiencing the same problem with all of them.

Furthermore, I've been using a Kindle 3 from a friend in the last few days and I was surprised to notice how fast it turns the pages (even faster than my Sony Prs 950 with .lrf). Also, despite both devices share the same screen technology, the Kindle screen looks more crisp and clear (more definition reading) than the Sony. I have tried several fonts on the Sony but no one matches the Kindle's.

Thanks for your help!

PRS+ doesn't really affect EPUB viewing much. It allows you to change CSS files right from the reader, but that's it.

Anyway, try to fully restart your reader.

Kindle3 uses "bolder" sans-serif fonts, it makes them look crisper. In general sans-serif fonts are considered to look better, but be worse than serif fonts as far as reading goes.

Technically you could use amazon's fonts on your Sony, the problem is how to obtain them legally.

Yes,
but I disabled the card scanning from the prs+.
Then I cancelled all the rows containing the name of the book from the cache.xml file (but leaving the xml file).
In spite of it, when I start the reader, it scans again the card.
There is any trick, to avoid this?

Just to make the problem clear,
when I also add one file to sd card, I have to wait about 5 minutes to scan the entire sdcard, I hope there is a trick to avoid this, as for the prs-650.

Remember that when you start calibre or sony ebook library they _automatically_ create that xml file.

I've rechecked this feature numerous times, to be honest and it never failed.

Yes,
but the SD Card is useful, as I put the files directly into it without using Calibre or Sony library.
Then, I would like to navigate simply browsing folders without wasting time to wait for a rescan of sd card. I was able to do it using the 650,but nor anymore with the 950.
I hope my problem is clear.
Thank anyway for your answer.

Thanks for the answer Karku. It's really strange the speed problems turning pages. When I deactivate my own css the turning speed is fine but when I use other fonts (like lexia dama, cambria....) I experience slow downs again.

I have format the book, I reinstall the original firmware and the I put the prs+ firmware after. i have the same problems. I do not know if its because of my fonts (I downloaded them from a foro where many people are using them) or the epubs I have...

Do you know exactly the names of the Kindle 3 fonts?? Do you know where I can get them? I've been searching for them but I cannot find them..

Thanks!!

You can't (legally). The Kindle uses a modified version of the Caecilia font. The basic Caecilia font is not free and the version on the Kindle has been modified by Amazon.

I need help please with changing the fonts. I have several different fonts but when I switch among them using "User EPUB Style" in Book Viewer Settings, nothing changes. The fonts stay the same. So, I'm guessing my css files are not quite correct, probably the path. Below is an example for the Garamond font. Can anybody tell me if it is correct please?

Quote:
@font-face {
font-family: adobegaramondpro;
font-weight: normal;
font-style: normal;
src: url(res:///database/system/PRSPlus/epub/FONT/Garamond/AGaramondPro-Regular.otf);
}

@font-face {
font-family: adobegaramondpro;
font-weight: bold;
font-style: normal;
src: url(res:///database/system/PRSPlus/epub/FONT/Garamond/AGaramondPro-Bold.otf);
}

@font-face {
font-family: adobegaramondpro;
font-weight: normal;
font-style: italic;
src: url(res:///database/system/PRSPlus/epub/FONT/Garamond/AGaramondPro-Italic.otf);
}

@font-face {
font-family: adobegaramondpro;
font-weight: bold;
font-style: italic;
src: url(res:///database/system/PRSPlus/epub/FONT/Garamond/AGaramondPro-BoldItalic.otf);
}

@font-face {
font-family: "sans-serif1";
src:url(/opt/sony/ebook/FONT/tt0003m_.ttf);
}

h1 {
font-family: sans-serif1, sans-serif;
}
body {
font-family: adobegaramondpro; line-height: 1.2em
}
I've also tried replacing the "res:///database" with just "/database". Still no luck when change css files.

You have to open a different book for the changes to apply. Then go back to the book you were reading.

Doesn't make a difference. Still I'm getting the same font, even after resetting the device.

You have a bit of the path missing. Instead of:
Code:
src: url(res:///database/system/PRSPlus/epub/FONT/Garamond/AGaramondPro-Regular.otf)
try
Code:
src: url(res:///Data/database/system/PRSPlus/epub/FONT/Garamond/AGaramondPro-Regular.otf)
This assumes that you have saved the actual .otf files in directory /database/system/PRSPlus/epub/FONT/Garamond/ in internal memory and that the whole dir path is case-sensitive. Although you can't see the /Data the Sony can. What you see as the root directory of int memory is res:///Data/ to the Sony.
