If you read The Stand after 1990, you likely have read the unabridged version.. It has been the only version available for thirty years.

Has the #DisneyMustPay mess ever been sorted? Disney has no problem selling the books, but doesn't want to pay the authors their royalties.

That was with Alan Dean Foster, who did the novelizations of the movies. I don't think it has been sorted out, and is such a shame, especially since he worked on these off and on for majority of his life and is now 75 with no real way to fight giant Disney. They're greedy and awful.

I haven't heard of issues with other writers for alien series, although I don't know everything so who knows.

There are still issues with other writers, including the late A.C. Crispin, among others.

I also noticed the cover of that Aliens omnibus didn’t mention the name of the author. Apparently Disney thinks books write themselves. I had to check reviews to learn that (extremely pertinent) information.

That was what made me stop and think. These are three books, all by the same author. With no credit given on the cover. Obviously, Disney thinks these books will move.

There are issues with other writers:
Quote:
SFWA is pleased to report that the matter of missing royalties for Mr. Foster’s novelizations has been resolved. Yet, about a dozen additional authors contacted SFWA with a request for assistance, including the authors of Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Indiana Jones, and multiple other properties. SFWA has provided Disney with the names of authors who are similarly missing royalty statements and payments going back years.

But, even if they were only taking advantage of an author in his seventies, that would be enough to tell me this is a company I do not want to support.

They also did that with the Barnes & Noble Deluxe Leather-bound Edition of the Han Solo Trilogy, written by A. C. Crispin (Ann Crispin). Ann Crispin died of cancer in 2013. And Victoria Strauss said that they believe her estate is not being paid for that edition.

If you want to support her estate, go to her website to see her other titles. Some of the purchase links are outdated, of course. (Fictionwise!) But you can buy eBooks of the StarBridge series; Time Horse; her Andre Norton books; or her Star Trek books.

Yeah it's odd, but it looks like two of the books are written by one person and the third by the same person with a second writer (since same last name, maybe wife). If they put both author's names on the cover, would be inaccurate since she wasn't part of the first two books. I don't think it was done to try to hide author names, but to make it less confusing for buyers, so they put in the blurb on Amazon here - it's the first text introducing the book

Disney is a horrible company in many ways. I don't get the brand loyalty so many fans give them.

Glad the Alan Dean Foster at least got worked out.

The Dark Game by Jonathan Janz is $0.99 at Amazon US.

Quote:
Ten writers are selected for a summer-long writing retreat with the most celebrated and reclusive author in the world. Their host is the legendary Roderick Wells. Handsome, enigmatic, and fiendishly talented, Wells promises to teach his pupils about writing, about magic, about the untapped potential that each of them possesses. Most of all, he plans to teach them about the darkness in their hearts.

The writers think they are signing up for a chance at riches and literary prestige. But they are really entering the twisted imagination of a deranged genius, a lethal contest pitting them against one another in a struggle for their sanity and their lives. They have entered into Roderick Wells’s most brilliant and horrible creation.

The Dark Game.

August's Eyes by Glenn Rolfe
Amazon US $0.99

Quote:
When dreams start bleeding into reality, a social worker is forced to face the mistakes of his past.

A serial killer has found a way to make his land of graveyards a sinister playground to be bent at his sadistic will.

The secrets behind August's eyes will bring two worlds together, and end in a cataclysm of pain and ruin.
