It would probably do.

But not on an 11-year-old laptop. The Windows partition has XP, which runs fine (but security! ).
Windows 10 would NOT run fine.

Linux runs fine, though. Always has, always will. I'm nice to it.

I've been running Linux exclusively for about six years now. Seems viable to me.

What does it do that Asunder can't do? And MP3Tag looks to do about the same thing as EasyTag.

Yes, in the past, the Service Packs were essentially baseline builds as well, but since Windows XP SP3, Microsoft has stopped providing them. It would be nice if MS would provide downloadable baseline build ISO's for future installations. (In the past, you'd slipstream your SP into the install CD.)

Exact Audio Copy allows offsets to be specified. This makes it the most accurate program out there. http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/en/inde...set-questions/

I did expect there to be similar enough programs to MP3Tag for Linux and/or OS X.

Quick research ... it looks like Exact Audio Copy uses AccurateRip. If this becomes important to me, I can use morituri or Python Audio Tools, both support AccurateRip natively in Linux. It looks like Foobar2000 also supports AccurateRip -- but not (natively) for Linux.

I updated my laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 last night via the Upgrade to Windows 10 advertisement that kept popping up.

Pretty seamless. And now that I've confirmed that it's an activated copy, I'm going to swap out the hard drive for a SSD and just do a clean install of the OS. I use my tablet far more than I use it now, so I won't have a lot to reinstall. Office, some games, iTunes, etc...

Well, MS has reversed course and restored the ISO downloads for the november update:

http://www.zdnet.com/article/microso...tag=TREc64629f

Quote:

After abruptly pulling the Windows 10 November Update from its download servers last weekend, Microsoft today reversed course. In the process, the company also explained the reason for the sudden decision.

Here's the new official statement:

Recently we learned of an issue that could have impacted an extremely small number of people who had already installed Windows 10 and applied the November update. Once these customers installed the November update, a few of their settings preferences may have inadvertently not been retained. For these customers, we will restore their settings over the coming days and we apologize for the inconvenience. We worked to resolve the issue as quickly as possible - it will not impact future installs of the November update, which is available today.

The Windows 10 media creation tool, which allows Windows users to download installation files for clean installations and upgrades, will once again allow anyone to download build 10586, a full installation package that incorporates the November Update and can be used for clean installs or upgrades.

The biggest benefit of the new installation files is that it allows Windows 10 to be activated using a product key from Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1.
Apparently, the reason they pulled it was because lawyers go involved.
More at the source.

(This is off-topic... but it's still about operating systems.)

Some important stuff is, at the behest of Red Hat (may they rest in pieces, especially Lennart Poettering) starting to depend on systemd, Red Hat's new system init daemon.

The software I know of which is going to depend on, or maybe already is depending on systemd is:

- Gnome
- PulseAudio
- Avahi

There may be more now.

Poettering is te designer of PulseAudio, Avahi, and systemd, and Red Hat is the current main developer of Gnome 3. Completely against all Unix/Linux philosophy, Red Hat and Poettering are now interconnecting parts that shouldn't interconnect. You can do that if you are developing the entire OS on your own, like MS, not when your OS is built from 50 million parts sourced from all over the world, and those parts are also used in other OS-es.

Because systemd depends on specific, non-POSIX-compliant functionality of the Linux kernel, it is not possible to compile it on BSD. This means that all software which in some way depends on systemd (or depends on something that, in turn, depends on systemd) won't be able to compile on BSD either.

Hm. I think I've been hit by this bug.

Suddenly my Windows 10 was in full screen Continuum Tablet Mode, on my desktop computer. I had to turn it off in the settings.

Nice. Should have been there at the beginning. First you had to upgrade to get Windows 10 to activate and the computer to register with Microsoft servers, and then do a new, fresh install (or a full reset) to do a clean install. Now you can do the clean install immediately if you want to.

Even though I have upgraded this computer from Vista x64 to Windows 7 x64 and then Windows 10 x64 without any problems, I did decide to wipe the disc and do a fresh install after the Windows 10 upgrade. While I didn't have any problems, the installation had become huge; especially WinSxS. The system took up over 50 GB for Windows only.

Now, the installation is 16 GB, and that is including Windows, all software, and restore points.

Do you have the upgrade icon in the system tray? Click on it and see if it'll let you upgrade.

Is your machine on line?
Is it registered with a legit copy of 7, 8? etc.

You can go download the ISO, but if you don't want it anyway then why do you even care?
