Twelve Years a Slave

Buy the 99 cent Kindle edition Twelve Years a Slave and the Audible book is $2.99, narrated by Hugh Quarshie. I noticed this Whispersync deal is available with another cheap Kindle edition

Not much new on the free audiobook front lately. I figured with March being National Reading Month there might be one or two promotions out there. Oh well, there's always June.

Here's one that might interest a few people. Zappos, of all people are offering a free audiobook version of "Tribal Leadership: Leveraging Natural Groups to Build a Thriving Organization" by Dave Logan, John King, and Halee Fischer-Wright. This is a non-fiction title about leveraging "tribes" within an organization, or small groups that form within an organization outside of management decisions. The free audiobook can be found here. You are supposed to sign up for their site to get the book, but it also allows you to sign in with your Amazon account, so that makes it fairly convenient (especially for most of us around here).

Enjoy!

Another Audible BOGO sale. Ends March 22, 2014, 11:59 PM ET

Quote:
Some of the most acclaimed movies and television shows have been adapted from our favorite books. From movies like Twelve Years a Slave and Logan's Run to television hits such as Orange is the New Black and Boardwalk Empire, it’s no surprise that books have the ability to inspire directors and actors alike. We’ve gathered some of our favorites for this sale: browse by title, and choose two of these original stories.

Thanks for posting this, skinmaan!! Looks like a great read, and I don't think I would have learned about this freebie otherwise...

Apparently the audiobook has always been free, with a sign up on the official website.

But still pretty nice, and from Zappos... Haha.

Some excellent audio books in this sale! One I spotted is an all time favourite - Master and Commander, the first Aubrey/Maturin book from Patrick O'Brian. Read by Patrick Tull, who does a superb job. (There are three choices of readers for the Aubrey/Maturin series, and two are excellent, the other acceptable. My personal preference is for Tull's reading, though the sages are about 50/50 on Patrick Tull vs. Simon Vance. With Ric Jerome not really in the running, as far as I'm concerned.)

I really wish they would let you click on one of the sale book and research it better. Instead, I keep open a second tab, so I can pull up any book I'm interested in and check reviews, whispersync status, price, etc. Looks like I have Master & Commander on Kindle, so can get the Vance version for $4. And the Twelve Years a Slave has several editions, all but one very inexpensive with Whispersynced Kindle editions.

That's a good price, and the books are well read. I recently read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and quite enjoyed it.

Thanks - added to OP

Half of these books are eligible for lower Whispersync pricing if you own the Kindle book. For those not wishing to pay for both versions, you can borrow the Kindle book from the library. That will then qualify you for Whispersync pricing.

Sadly, only if you're in the US. No Kindle borrowing from Canadian libraries. Yet. And while my Kindle account is a US one, I don't have any US library cards.
