$3.95 -- The Great Zoo of China -- Matthew Reilly/ Rich Orlow --> 10.0 hrs/ R-4.1 --> sci-fi

Quote:
Whispersync: Audible ($3.95) | Kindle ($8.99)

In the blockbuster and best-selling tradition of Jurassic Park comes the breakneck new adventure from New York Times and number-one internationally best-selling author Matthew Reilly, whose imaginative, cinematic thrillers "make you feel like a kid again; [they're] a blast" (Booklist). It is a secret the Chinese government has been keeping for 40 years. They have proven the existence of dragons - a landmark discovery no one could ever believe is real and a scientific revelation that will amaze the world. Now the Chinese are ready to unveil their astonishing findings within the greatest zoo ever constructed. A small group of VIPs and journalists has been brought to the zoo deep within China to see these fabulous creatures for the first time. Among them is Dr. Cassandra Jane "CJ" Cameron, a writer for National Geographic, and an expert on reptiles. The visitors are assured by their Chinese hosts that they will be struck with wonder at these beasts, that the dragons are perfectly safe, and that nothing can go wrong. Of course it can't....

$5.95 -- Dead Jed 3 -- Scott Craven/ August Ross --> 8.3 hrs/ R-n/a --> YA paranormal

Quote:
Dead Jed 3: Return of the Jed --> Dead Jed Series (book 3 of 3)

Whispersync: no deals at this time | Audible

With seventh grade behind him, Jed jumps at the opportunity to spend the summer in Mexico with his dad. But there's just one catch: Luke and Tread get to tag along.

In Mexico, fitting in might be easier than Jed imagined, with holidays such as Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Here, a rising eighth-grade zombie boy and his zombie dog won't draw that much attention. But then Tread unwittingly sets off Mexico's Chupacabra Defense Network, and Jed accidentally collides with a bus. So much for blending in. The unusual pair catch the eye of a professional wrestler, who challenges Jed to a fight!

Their antics manage to capture the attention of a doctor whose knowledge of the undead causes Jed to question his very existence. Is this the answer Jed's been hoping for since his parents sat him down for the "you're a zombie" talk? Jed may have finally found a way to be normal, but at what cost?

Quote:
As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride

Whispersync: no deals at this time

From actor Cary Elwes, who played the iconic role of Westley in The Princess Bride, comes a first-person account and behind-the-scenes look at the making of the cult classic film filled with never-before-told stories and interviews with costars Robin Wright, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest, and Mandy Patinkin, as well as author and screenwriter William Goldman, producer Norman Lear, and director Rob Reiner.

The Princess Bride has been a family favorite for close to three decades. Thanks, Monkey! I read the ebook, which I really loved, but the audiobook sounds even better since all the actors involved (with the exception of Andre the Giant, RIP), read their own quotes.

$3.99 -- Remains of Innocence -- JA Jance/ Hillary Huber --> 12.3 hrs/ R-4.3 --> suspense

Quote:
Remains of Innocence --> Joanna Brady Series (book 16 of 17)

Whispersync: Audible ($12.99) | Kindle ($9.99)

Sheriff Joanna Brady must solve two perplexing cases that may be tied together in New York Times best-selling author J. A. Jance's thrilling tale of suspense that brings to life Arizona's Cochise County and the desert Southwest in all its beauty and mystery.

An old woman, a hoarder, is dying of emphysema in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. In cleaning out her house, her daughter, Liza Machett, discovers a fortune in hundred dollar bills hidden in the tall stacks of books and magazines that crowd every corner.

Tracing the money's origins will take Liza on a journey that will end in Cochise County, where Sheriff Joanna Brady is embroiled in a personal mystery of her own. A man she considers a family friend is found dead at the bottom of a hole in a limestone cavern near Bisbee. And now there is the mystery of Liza and the money. Are the two disparate cases connected? It's up to Joanna to find out.

You're quite welcome. I've never read the original book or seen the movie because of the romantic elements. I'm just not into romance.

Inconceivable! You must read it. The Princess Bride is adventure, not a sappy love story. The movie might even be better than the book.

Classic film. My daughter's last two boyfriends have seen TPB more times than she has!

I convinced both of them to buy the the audio version of As You Wish. Course, they are both commentary nuts like me.

Audible Daily Deal -- exp 12 Aug

$2.95 -- Baggage -- SG Redling/ Amy McFadden --> 7.9 hrs/ R-4.2 --> suspense

Quote:
Whispersync: Audible ($1.99) | Kindle ($4.99)

Over the years, terrible things keep happening to Anna Ray on February 17. First, there was the childhood trauma she's never been able to speak about. Then, to her horror, her husband killed himself on that date.

A year later and a thousand miles away, Anna tries to find solace in the fresh start of a new job in a new place. She takes comfort in her outspoken cousin Jeannie, the confidant and best friend who's there whenever she needs help. On the day of the dreaded anniversary, Anna and Jeannie hit the town, planning to ease the pain with an alcohol-induced stupor and then sleep....

When Anna awakes the next morning, she thinks she can put one more February 17 behind her, but fate is about to intervene in the form of two gruesome murders with eerie similarities to her violent past. This time, however, she won't be an abandoned daughter or a grieving widow. This time, she'll be a suspect.

How do you get to the "Free Audio book" ? When I "buy" one on Amazon, it still says the Audible book is $1.99. (I only tried one book, Jane Eyre)
