Just stay in one piece, Stitchawl - we need you here!

My rant for today is after a quick trip to the supermarket for a couple of things: piles of Easter eggs and hot cross buns on sale. Talk about planning ahead!

I have it on good authority that that if you are lucky enough not to hit anything that sliding a considerable distance on cowhide results in enough friction to have to go and have burns treated.

Generally, when protected by good leather, the burns come from heating up of rivets and studs by friction, rather than the leather getting hot. This is why top quality motorcycle jackets and pants don't use them, and racing leathers have all their zipper hardware covered by another layer of leather. They'll use double and triple stitching instead of a rivet. I've just about worn through the back of a leather jacket by sliding on the highway (after going down on Black Ice.) There was just enough leather left to hold itself together. The rest was abraded away. No heat damage to my back on that ride. A lot of different leathers are used for Motorcycle clothing; cowhide, goatskin, sheepskin, horsehide, etc. and that could account for the different experiences.

I wish to.
But there is one law I NEVER, EVER, break. I ALWAYS make a full stop at stop signs. I look both ways, often twice, then start up again. I don't even do that much at traffic lights! But I always do at stop signs, especially those that I know have really blind cross traffic. Like the one yesterday that has absolutely NO visibility in any direction without creeping forward, LEANING forward in the saddle to look past the blocking walls in BOTH directions, checking twice, then proceeding. I go through this intersection several times a week. I know it's there. I know it's dangerous. I always stop and check.

Except yesterday... when I sailed through the intersection as if it wasn't there.... I must have been sound asleep... Unfortunately, the cop wasn't. Bummer.

Thanks for the reminder, Stitchawl. I had a customer in last week, late at night when it was slow, and we got to talking. He'd been in Japan. He was describing to me an intersection just like the one you described (and I bolded) above. I'm glad you're okay . Those intersections sound like a nightmare no matter what you might be driving!

Hi Shel! How are you doing?

Wow, Stitchawl, I am glad you are all right. You were very lucky that the only thing that happened was getting a ticket. Be careful out there. Kay?

Hi Shel! Nice to see you again! There are a LOT of those types of intersections here as most areas outside of 'down town' don't have sidewalks, and the houses all have walls right at the edge of the street. A Four-Way intersection is usually totally blind. The put large mirrors on almost all neighborhood intersections these days.

I returned my new tablet yesterday because it had several dead (sub)pixels. I knew that they wouldn't get a new batch of the same tablets until 10 February but I chose to wait and get a voucher instead of getting my money back because I really liked this tablet.

This morning an Asus Transformer forum is all abuzz with the rumour that the Prime is discontinued, at least in the US. It wouldn't surprise me if it is going to be discontinued because a lot of people had problems with weak wifi (my old one worked fine) and the new one has been announced to be released in Q2.

I'm now wondering how store I now have a voucher for a Transformer Prime from will solve this. But since there hasn't been any official word about this yet all I can do is wait. I'd ordered a case for the tablet with Amazon UK but when I get it I'll be sending it back unless I know for sure I'm getting a new Prime.

grrrrr! I don't wash my hair every day as it is too long and thick and would never dry, and also I think that but in very few cases, it is actually bad to wash every day. well I absolutely MUST wash it tonight, and Strider has made off with my comb! ARGH!

We used to have two cats who had the tendency to steal things. Chinchi was always stealing bras and hiding them. Humpie always stole shiny things (pens, lighters, etc) out of the handbags or pockets of visitors. She also liked to steal tampons from the bathroom to play with (usually when we had visitors) .

Nah! They make great toys to slam across the floor - and are small enough to carry in her mouth [she acts a lot like a puppy sometimes]

My (grown) nephew was playing an informal game of indoor soccer last night and fell badly on his knee. When he tried to lift his leg, the lower leg and foot just dangled at a very strange angle. They had to call an ambulance to take him to the hospital and he's still there tonight, with an absolutely wrecked knee. Dislocated, fractured at the point where the lateral collateral ligament attaches, ruptured ACL -- and that's what they can see BEFORE the MRI (which they are doing right now.) I hate this. On the other hand, the surgeon said today that with such a severe injury, we should just be thankful that the artery wasn't ruptured and that the nerve seems to be intact. Hopefully the rest of it can be fixed, although it will probably take more than one surgery. And...he DID score as he went down.

Oh, that is just awful! Ow! I hope he heals quickly.

My congestion and scratchy throat stuck with me and got worse and I went to the Dr. and got antibiotics. *Sigh*

They are working, which is good, but I have to take them for TEN DAYS. My stomach is somewhat unhappy about this but not too bad. What I really hate about it is no alcohol. For ten days. I promise I am not an alcoholic, though that makes it sound like I am. I'm just Irish and French Creole.

Healing energies to Betty's nephew, for a speedy recover.

I just got the 'good news' that my bike is back from Inspection and I don't have to pay $1,000! Only $798.00! Can you imagine how much money the government makes from this silly law? It's fortunate that I keep the bike in perfect running condition or I would have had to shell out lots more for repairs... I tend towards preventative repair or replacement during the year as any mechanical faults just reduce the safety factors. There are only two tires so they'd better be in good shape. And only three brakes so they'd better be working at 100% rather than 75%... Only safety concern now is the nut behind the wheel...
