Which was a fun story, although the main villain was obvious quite early on. I'll certainly get the next one at some point, but not in the next few years unless I find it on offer.

Now another Baen title, Back to the Moon by Travis S. Taylor & Les Johnson. A near-future/near-present adventure concerning (of course) travel to the moon.

You are correct. They are funny, but they do not have the depth that Mash did.

MASH was funny, but it was more than that. Which was it's strength as a series, and the reason I read the book (and enjoyed it so much.)

Just finished "Color: A Natural History of the Palette" by Victoria Finlay. (I suspect I'm in the last generation in Canada that will find that spelling odd - the original publication title was "Colour"). A pleasant read, part micro-history, part travelogue.

I'm back to reading Kant's Critique of Pure Reason as an audiobook, after which I'll listen to One Corpse Too Many by Ellis Peters (the late Edith Pargeter). One Corpse Too Many is the follow-up to A Morbid Taste for Bones, which was the book that introduced Brother Cadfael to the world.

I'm also continuing to read Jesus: A Revolutionary Biography by John Dominic Crossan, but the headaches resulting from my recent tumble—which are gradually growing less severe—are putting a limit on how long I can read at a time.

Interesting. I've only been to Canada once (Victoria, British Columbia). I don't recall seeing any vestiges of British spellings, but I was only there for a day and it was several years ago.

As a Canadian I can say that there are many vestiges of British spellings. Colour, behaviour, endevour etc. Also, in any Canadian publication the the word is "centre" not center and in Canada we write a "cheque," not a check.

And we use a serviette, not (shudder) a napkin, at the dinner table. However, we sometimes carry a pager, but not a bleeper, and we TV not the telly. But we watch it from our chesterfield, not our couch.

We always called pagers "beepers" but not "bleepers".

When you are in a restaurant or movie and they go off, you might want to call them a bleeping pager.

hmmm...I wonder if it's regional as here in California we've always said pager (at least among my contemporaries), though I was aware of beeper.

bleeper is UK for pager/beeper and one UK English-ism we haven't adopted, as is telly. Serviette is, as you say, French, but hey, we have at least two official languages here, and "napkin" means something very different.

I was merely pointing out that we're uneven. We have a lot more UK English-isms than you'd expect, but it's not universal. And some things are purely Canadian. (Care to guess what a garbage disposal is called?)

Finished. Also finished The Lion in the Valley, #4 in the Amelia Peabody series from Elizabeth Peters.

On to The Tide of Victory, #5 in the Belisarius series. Though I think we may be nearing the point where the series starts to go downhill.
