Arrgh! Went to bed about midnight. Awakened about 3 a.m. by a wrong number phone call. Then, true to form, I couldn't go back to sleep. I've got such a busy day coming up today, beginning with getting new tires installed at 8 this morning. I hate insomnia.

So yes! I am very tired! yawn it is just after 5am

bluddy cat bluddy summer. He came and woke me up several times during the night. Then started wah wahing from about 2.30 am. So when all the birds were awake and noisy I let him out at 4.30. Oh goody I though now some sleep. But sadly it was not to be. So up I got seeing if I could start work early, but the emails have not yet arrived.

so I have to wait until the boss gets up (they live half an hour in the past) and sends them to me. *sigh*

I think Peanut will be in season soon, she's been building nests all over the house and carrying all of her babies (fuzzy toys) around everywhere. It's hilarious to watch a seven pound poodle trying to figure out how to jump up onto the bed with a stuffed toy half as big as she is in her mouth.

Trouble is she's just so darned CUDDLY! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a little cuddling, but when you have a fuzz ball tucked up into your armpit, it's hard to hit the page turn button.

It's worse when the favoured arm is strapped up and VERY painful and for some reason it's the only one the the cat likes.

This is more of a solicitation for job advice than a rant. Well, I have been enduring a commute of an hour each way to my job as a librarian at a community college for 5 years. I also want out for a number of other reasons I don't want to go into here. Suffice it to say I feel a bit over my head but think this other job would be simpler.

So, there is an opening at a public library 1/2 an hour from my current location (each way) and within walking distance of a house my mother owns and is currently renting to a couple. Mom and I could easily move in there when their lease is up. The pay is a bit less but the lack of commute would pay for that and it would be 35 hrs a week instead of 40, which makes the lesser pay even more not so less.

My questions are:

1. Should I apply?
2. Should I tell my boss if I apply or wait until/if they interview me?

Yes, apply. Unless you need your boss for a reference, I wouldn't mention it until you're offered the other job. And then you tell them when you give notice.

Unless, of course, you want to use the other job offer as leverage for a raise.

Well, in that case, it depends on your relationship with your boss.

Although there's usually a space on application forms to ask for references not to be taken up unless you're going to be called for interview. (And sometimes even not unless they're wanting to offer you the job.)

But a good boss will expect their staff to want to move on at some point, and shouldn't make a fuss about you applying for other jobs.
