This is one of my biggest problems when traveling. I have lived for many years in countries that drive on the left. But I grew up driving on the right. When we travel and I rent a car or motorcycle, my wife has to keep reminding me which side of the road I'm supposed to be on. It's usually not a problem when going down the road, but it's REALLY difficult when making left or right turns and there are no cars in front of me to follow! I've messed up a LOT!

I heard a tidbit during a movie I was watching last night that I probably should have already known , but not having really travelled anywhere I just never thought about it -- that when driving a car in a foreign country, just remember that the steering wheel/driver should always be in the "middle" of the road (as opposed to the curb side). Supposedly as long as you are driving a local vehicle that will always put you on the correct side of the road. Now on a motorcycle I guess all bets are off!

It's the bicycles that are dangerous, when I used to travel to Scotland (and Portsmouth) in the sixties, and stepped out of a pub to cross the street on my way to another pub, I would glance to the left for oncoming traffic. You can hear Lorries and taxies and automobiles coming unnaturally from the right, and thus be warned; but bicycles make no noise!

When you're a bit tipsy and riding in the front seat of a taxi, in what would normally be the driver’s seat, it become a little hair raising. Especially during those right turns, when you have to cross a number of lanes of oncoming traffic, and there’s no steering wheel!

Years ago shortly after learning to drive a manual transmission, a friend of mine and I went to Britain for a month's holiday. We rented a car in Norwich, not too far from my sister's house. I still remember the first few yards in that car.. Stalling in traffic; getting the windshield wipers going by mistake... and on and on.

Of course, my sister lives in the middle of nowhere; needless to say we had great fun finding her house.

Over the next few weeks the mistakes I made were immense; misjudging the sides of the road; damaging a rim by running over a stone; backing up under a tree and wrecking the roof mounted antenna; damaging the drivers side mirror on a hedge; and last but not least getting a flat tyre.

What a holday!

Do the razor manufacturers really think people are that stupid? When they came out with a double-bladed safety razor it made sense. The second blade caught the hair that only bent in front of the first. It gave a cleaner shave quickly.

But then the makers added three blades, then four blades, and now FIVE blades, with the marketing strategy; 'Five blades means that you don't have to scrape your face several times with your razor, eliminating razor burn.'
Aren't folks smart enough to realize that scraping with five blades on the same handle one time is the same as scraping with one blade on the handle five times? It's not the handle that is causing razor burn...

Have you tried the Spishak Mach20?

WARNING: Even though this "commercial" appeared on late-nite American TV (MadTV), it may be too graphic for some folks' tastes:

the first time I was stationed in Germany I dated a British Soldier that was on an exchange program with the American Army. he had this really fun dune buggy that was street legal. it was right hand drive... I'll never forget my feelings of terror and total lack of control while going hell bent for leather down the auto-bahn staring certain death in the face without a steering wheel!

For the do-it-yourselfer, a live chicken would probably be cheaper.

That's how I felt as a young G.I on R&R in Sydney. We were forbidden to drive while there, and I quickly learned why. It's quite disconcerting to make a right-hand turn and see traffic heading your way in what you've become accustomed to thinking of as the wrong side of the street.
