I always adopt adult kitties. When I adopted my last kitty she was 10 mos. old and I usually want them at least a year since they're harder to adopt, but the kitty's foster mom said that a lot of small kittens had become older kittens because they weren't adopted as babies.

My kitty before her was a 10 y/o "senior", as they called her. She looked like as spry as any other cat I've seen, until she opened her mouth and meowed. She sounded like and old woman who smoked too many cigarettes and drank too much whiskey her entire life.

That's for sure. When I saw her at the shelter, I was sure she was 8 - 10 months - she weighed over 5 pounds. But the vet said she was only 4 months old! And full of energy!

Fortunately Goldie (formerly the baby cat, now the middle cat - 5 years old) has started playing with her. The oldest cat Sammy (8 years old) is ignoring her for now, unless stealing her food!
